'American Idol' Top 4 results: Hollie Cavanagh or Phillip Phillips, who's going home and who's in Top 3?

The "American Idol" Top 4 results show was even more filler than usual, since nobody is put into a Bottom 3, since that would reveal who gets the most votes (though we suspect it's been Phillip for awhile now). But eventually Ryan Seacrest builds the Top 3, announcing the kids who get to go back to their hometowns. Jessica Sanchez is put through first, followed by Joshua Ledet. Interesting. This doesn't seem to lend much suspense to the elimination, unless it's a surprise Phillip elimination. Hmm.And then the final Top 3 member is ... Phillip. Yeah, no surprises there. Though good fake out, Idol. So Hollie's journey is over, which that's OK. She's good, but we're not sure she's better than anyone left in the competition. What do you think, "Idol" fans? Did the right one go home?... http://blog.zap2it.com/frominsidethebox/2012/05/american-idol-top-4-results-hollie-cavanagh-or-phillip-phillips-whos-going-home-and-whos-in-top-3.html

Ryan Seacrest's Fake Proposal On 'American Idol'

It would make sense for Ryan Seacrest to propose on live television, and that's just what fans thought was happening on " American Idol " (Wed., 8 p.m. ET on Fox) when Julianne Hough was on to promote her new film "Rock of Ages." After showing a clip of the contestants watching a sneak preview of the film with director Adam Shankman , Seacrest joined both Shankman and Hough in the audience. After talking with Shankman briefly, he told Hough that he had something he'd been meaning to ask her, and then reached into his inside jacket pocket. But it wasn't a ring that he pulled out. It was a folded up envelope. "Will you give this note I wrote to Tom Cruise?” he asked Hough. “Such a big fan; I loved him in ‘Cocktail.'" Cruise is one of Hough's co-stars in "Rock of Ages." It was a brilliant fake-out, with the audience fooled, and even Hough shocked for a moment. But now that he's almost proposed on live television, how will he top that for the real deal, should they reach that point. Maybe at midnight during his New Year's show? "American Idol" continues toward crowning a winner, Wednesdays and Thursdays at 8 p.m. ET on Fox. TV Replay scours the vast television landscape to find the most interesting, amusing, and, on a good day, amazing moments, and delivers them right to your browser. http://feeds.huffingtonpost.com/~r/HP/Entertainment/~3/GFDg68zgiGs/american-idol-ryan-seacrest-fake-proposal-video_n_1505168.html

'American Idol': Joshua Ledet on the standing ovation you didn't see

Joshua Ledet had the judges squirming in their seats ready to give a standing ovation only halfway through his "American Idol" Top 4 performance of James Brown's classic "It's a Man's Man's Man's World," but there's another important "Idol" player who felt the performance so deeply he almost fell over: Nigel Lythgoe. They didn't catch it on camera, but Zap2it observed the "Idol" producer become so deeply moved that he flailed out of his seat during the performance once Ledet hit his gorgeous high note. "I did see that, I'm not even going to lie," Ledet says of the boss man's near-fall. "All I saw was his legs in the air and I was like, 'Oh my God, what did I do?' I wanted to laugh so bad but I just kind of held it all in."As for one of Ledet's other big moments, his duet of Maroon 5's "This Love" with Phillip Phillips, the singer... http://blog.zap2it.com/frominsidethebox/2012/05/american-idol-joshua-ledet-on-the-standing-ovation-you-didnt-see.html

'American Idol': Hollie Cavanagh on poor song choice and singing Journey for Randy Jackson

On a night where each "American Idol" Top 4 finalist needed two knockout performances, Hollie Cavanagh faltered. The judges loved her first solo, a cover of Journey's "Faithfully," but the 18-year-old Texan says song choice might have tripped her up on her second Top 4 tune, Bonnie Raitt's "I Can't Make You Love Me.""I don't know," Cavanagh says of the judges' criticism. "I mean, it's just I guess my song choice. They loved the first song choice but not the second one."That could be the kiss of death. "It's tough only because it's not good to get bad criticism at this point," she admits. But she insists that she truly did connect with the song despite what they said. "I felt it -- I felt the lyrics in it. They can tell me I didn't feel it, but if I felt it and I feel like I felt it, then I felt it. You know?"This... http://blog.zap2it.com/frominsidethebox/2012/05/american-idol-hollie-cavanagh-on-poor-song-choice-and-singing-journey-for-randy-jackson.html

'American Idol': Phillip Phillips on his racy Maroon 5 duet - 'It is a sexy song'

If you weren't in love with Phillip Phillips before the "American Idol" Top 4 performance show, you probably are now. Between his slow, mournful version of Damien Rice's "Volcano" and his duet with Joshua Ledet on Maroon 5's "This Love," Phillips made it hard not to fall deep into those baby blue eyes of his. The Maroon 5 tune in particular has some sexy elements that are hard to ignore, and Phillips tells Zap2it that he was very aware of the racy lyrics when he sang them. "Oh yeah, I am big on words in a song so it's definitely sexy so... I don't know," he says. "No comment. I plead the fifth."At least this time it didn't feel like he and Ledet were singing to each other. "It is a sexy song," he admits. "We didn't feel like we were singing to each other, so that was a little better."Actually, Phillips says he had... http://blog.zap2it.com/frominsidethebox/2012/05/american-idol-phillip-phillips-on-his-racy-maroon-5-duet---it-is-a-sexy-song.html

Watch All the Performances From American Idol 2012’s Top 4 on May 9, 2012

It was “confusing themes” week on American Idol, as the Top 4 contestants chose “California Dreamin’” songs (in other words, those from California artists) and “Songs You Wish You Had Written” (or music that inspires them). Okay! From Phillip Phillips’ “Volcano” to Joshua Ledet's "It's a Man's Man's Man's World" to Jessica Sanchez’s “And I Am Telling You I'm Not Going,” it was a night of standout... http://feeds.wetpaint.com/~r/wetpaint/latest/excerpt/~3/96Hsj0OPL3c/watch-all-the-performances-from-american-idol-2012s-top-4-on-may-9-2012

'American Idol': Jessica Sanchez's 'And I'm Telling You' leaves us speechless

For the Top 4 of "American Idol," Jessica Sanchez took on some classic singers with Etta James and Jennifer Holliday. Her choice for Etta James was not the well-known "At Last," but the lesser-known "Steal Away."We weren't sure it was the best choice. It didn't show off Jessica's voice to the best of its ability and it's a little obscure for Idol voters. The judges liked it. Steven Tyler said, "I loved it ... you just nailed that. That showed the other side of your voice. However. Then Jessica took on "And I'm Telling You," which has been everywhere the last five years because of "Dreamgirls." Thankfully, she sang the absolutely stuffing out of it. Amazing. Brought tears to our eyes at the end. J.Lo summed it up perfectly with, "This is crazy. With a performance like that, there's nothing to say. Your vocal ability, it's not something you see all the time."What do you... http://blog.zap2it.com/frominsidethebox/2012/05/american-idol-jessica-sanchezs-and-im-telling-you-leaves-us-speechless.html

'American Idol': Joshua Ledet slays 'It's a Man's Man's Man's World'

For the "American Idol" Top 4, Joshua Ledet took on some big voices in Josh Groban and James Brown with "You Raise Me Up" and "It's a Man's Man's Man's World" and he really nailed them both. What we loved about "You Raise Me Up" is that it was totally restrained. He held back, he didn't shriek, he used his lower register more and it was fantastic. It was what we wish we saw more of from Joshua all season. J.Lo praised the "drae-ma" of the performance, she was so excited. But then. Joshua took on "Man's World" and he absolutely killed it. The judges couldn't jump out of their seats fast enough. J.Lo called it "sickening" and Steven Tyler said, " I can go home right now. I never heard anything like that in my life."The MP3 of "You Raise Me Up" is below and the video of "Man's World" is above, in case you missed... http://blog.zap2it.com/frominsidethebox/2012/05/american-idol-joshua-ledet-slays-its-a-mans-mans-mans-world.html

'American Idol': Hollie Cavanagh's Journey and Bonnie Raitt leave us wanting

For "American Idol" this week, Hollie Cavanagh did some Journey and Bonnie Raitt. The judges loved her on Journey's "Faithfully," though we found it to be a little bit boring. It also was not pitch-perfect. Thankfully, the Idols got a second song. However, Hollie took the stage for "I Can't Make You Love Me" and we were really excited for how awesome it was going to be. And it left us a little cold. She just didn't get to the raw emotion of the piece. The judges agreed. J.Lo and Steven Tyler tried to make it sound as though it's because Hollie hasn't "gone through stuff," but that's not really it.A true artist can do a song like that and make you think she's gone through it, even if she hasn't. Hollie has struggled all year with seeming a little robotic and this was another instance where that happened to her. What do you think, "Idol"... http://blog.zap2it.com/frominsidethebox/2012/05/american-idol-hollie-cavanaghs-journey-and-bonnie-raitt-leave-us-wanting.html

'American Idol': 'Volcano' gives Phillip Phillips a huge win

For the "American Idol" Top 4, Phillip Phillips took on Creedence Clearwater Revival and Damien Rice. His call for CCR was "Have You Ever Seen the Rain" and it went really well. It's not a song that has you jumping out of your chair, but his vocal was solid and he had no trouble staying on the melody line, so that's good. The judges liked it, with Jennifer Lopez praising his "Joe Cocker quality" that she claims she hasn't heard before - but we think he has sounded quite a bit like Joe Cocker all along. Either way, his first song went really well. The second song was "Volcano" and it was a wonderful choice for Phillip, but we fear it's a little obscure for Idol voters at this stage of the game. Steven Tyler summed it up perfectly with, "I heard the musician that time, man. You just sang like you really dug the way you... http://blog.zap2it.com/frominsidethebox/2012/05/american-idol-volcano-gives-phillip-phillips-a-huge-win.html
