Idol Runner-Up Katharine McPhee Snags New Record Deal

American Idol  Season 5 runner-up Katharine McPhee has inked a new recording contract with Columbia Records. The contract comes as part of a deal between Columbia Records and NBC to release the soundtrack for McPhee's upcoming TV series, Smash . Set to premiere midseason on NBC, Smash  is a drama that follows the making of a Broadway musical about Marilyn Monroe. 'American Idol': Daughtry added to 'New Year's Rockin' Eve'

Chris Daughtry will have a reunion of sorts with "American Idol" host Ryan Seacrest on New Year's Eve. The season 5 "Idol" finalist and his band, Daughtry, have been booked for "Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve with Ryan Seacrest." Jennifer Lopez has also joined the party; both with be performing from Times Square in New York. Additionally, former "Bachelor" and "Dancing with the Stars" contestant and newlywed Melissa Rycroft will serve as the show's Times Square correspondent. So sorry, Melissa's husband, if you were planning a romantic first New Year's Eve with your wife. The annual ABC special will kick off at 10 p.m. ET, break for local news at 11, then return for 2 1/2 hours at 11:30. Daughtry will perform four songs during the show, and Lopez will take the stage shortly before the ball drops in Times Square. The special will also feature performances from the Black Eyed Peas, Justin Bieber, Selena Gomez and others from Las Vegas; the Peas' Fergie will serve as host. Source Here
