Daytime talker "Tyra Banks Show" is moving to The CW 's afternoon block in September, after airing in syndication for four seasons. Economics played a role in its move out of syndication as stations are forced to make budget cuts amid the economic downturn. To cut costs, "Tyra's" production schedule will be cut to 26 weeks from 34, with an episode from the first four seasons airing at 3 p.m. and a new installment airing at 4 p.m. "Tyra" repeats also will continue to air in late-night on women's cable channel Oxygen. Meanwhile, The CW is close to renewing Banks' " America's Next Top Model " for a 13th cycle. "Tyra Banks" this season is averaging a 1.0 household rating, off 9% from the same period a year ago, which puts it in a different league from higher-rated talkers including "The Oprah Winfrey Show," "Dr. Phil" and "The Ellen DeGeneres Show," which is the only talker up year-over-year. But it's also averaging a 1.0 among women 18-34 -- The CW 's target -- up 25% from a year ago and fourth among all talkers. read from the source
The final runway was more of an obstacle course than a catwalk, but leggy McKey tackled it with style to become America's Next Top Model. TVGuide.com caught up with the Cycle 11 winner to find out everything from how she's learned to embrace her "weirdo" ways, what she thinks Tyra is really like and where she came up with the pseudo name McKey. read the interview from: TvGuide
Spoilers Included The finale of Cycle 11 of America's Next Top Model aired last evening and an 11th Top Model was chosen. And...if you've ever watched The Colbert Report ..."I CALLED IT!" (Imagine a flood of balloons released above my desk) That's right, the girl who I predicted would take home the title after the airing of the very first episode of the season - McKey Sullivan - was crowned a winner. Let's hope McKey likes that name...because don't forget that her name is actually Brittany; she was forced to change it the first episode due to the fact that there were 3 Brittanys who made the Top group. All in all, the biggest surprise of this episode for me was not McKey's win, but Analeigh's failure to make the final 2. Even oddsmaking websites (that's right - there are sick people that bet on ANTM outcomes; actually...who I am kidding, I wish I had staked some money on McKey) had pegged Analeigh as this season's winner, so her not making the final 2 was definitely a surprise. Over the course of the cycle, Sam received a whole lot more criticism than Analeigh - mainly for not looking like a model in plain clothes - which I thought for sure would have done Samantha in. When watching the final fashion show, I honestly wasn't blown away by either girl's performance, though McKey was admittedly better. Honestly, I was just holding my breath that none of the girls would face plant the ground when running up that ridiculous hill-runway on 4 inch heels. By the time we got to the photographs in judging, there was just no contest. The judges only showed a few photographs - conveniently leaving out all of the ones that had landed Sam in the bottom 2. McKey barely took a bad picture the entire cycle. So...are we all satisfied with the winner? Was Analeigh robbed a slot in the finale? Will they ever do an ANTM cycle with men? Will Tyra's hair ever look normal? Will Tyra ever retire? Share your thoughts about the cycle in comments. Image Source
Tyra to Transform Transgender 'Top Model' Banks Sets Up Transgender Contestant's Sex Reassignment Surgery By SHEILA MARIKAR Nov. 18, 2008 After making her a reality TV star, Trya Banks is making her a woman -- a real woman. Banks announced Monday she found a doctor to pay for Isis King, the first transgender contestant on "America's Next Top Model," to undergo sex reassignment surgery. King, 22, was born male and went from a homeless shelter to cycle 11 of Banks' reality competition show after producers discovered her at a photo shoot. Now she's eager to be known for more than her gender. "I look at it like, 'Yes, I'm the first transgender contestant, but OK, lets move past it now," King tells Banks in today's episode of "The Tyra Banks Show." "I try not to think about [being transgendered] because ... I feel like I really was born in the wrong body, and it's just the one thing that makes me feel uncomfortable." Banks later surprises King with Dr. Marci Bowers, the gender reassignment surgeon who will evaluate and operate on King, to the tune of $20,000 to $35,000. Banks' decision to debut King as her show's first transgender contestant was a bold move for a network reality series. King was eliminated almost midway through the current season, in part because she was uncomfortable posing in a swimsuit. read more here
Tyra Banks is spinning off herself...except that she'll only be producing. Operation Fabulous will star the two Jays - Jay Manuel and J Alexander - as they travel across the country and attempt to make the five least fashionable females in each town they visit into little fashionistas (something tells me that the unfashionable will deep down still be attractive young ladies...). So...does this sound like a hit to you all? To me, it sounds too much like more of the same...basically, it's every show that airs on TLC (What Not to Wear) and one of a few shows that air on Bravo (ahem...Tim Gunn's Guide to Style, anyone). And...this is Tyra's second spinoff announcement of the week! She is also launching Modelville , which within her talk-show will track the paths of former ANTM losers. Ummm, do we care about them either? Update: Jay and J have spoken and want to clear up that "it's not a spinoff" (and is currently only a pilot-order)! Furthermore, to spice things up, each of the made-over ladies will then compete against one another. Because what show can be fabulous without winners and losers? This is slowly sounding more awesome...and, fear not...the Jays are not leaving ANTM. Source: E!Online
