Cancellation Buzz: Are Scrubs and Ted in Trouble? (Probably) - Featured

The Futon Critic has reported that ABC intends to run double episodes of their Tuesday night comedies Scrubs and Better Off Ted throughout January beginning on Tuesday the 5th. ABC is also airing 2 episodes of Ted and one of Scrubs on Friday, January 1st (seriously...will anybody know or remember to watch these?!) They will then alternate episodes of the 2 shows on Tuesdays - airing Scrubs at 8 & 9 and Ted at 8:30 & 9:30. Collectively, these airings will burn off both shows' 13-episode orders. Both series have been struggling in the ratings since they premiered earlier this month. Thus, ABC dumping all of the episodes quickly might not be such a great sign for their future survival. From TV By the Numbers : "Though it won't likely quiet speculation from fans, this seems to significantly reduce (all the way down to zero) the likelihood that either show will get renewed for additional episodes." While I thus far have not been wowed by Scrubs: Med School, I'd be kind of sad to lose Ted, which I think has really excelled in its second season. How about you?

Ratings: The Good Wife Goes Out with a Bang

The Good Wife headed into its winter hiatus on the strength of its largest audience to date, helping CBS land yet another Tuesday night ratings win. The freshman legal drama pulled in 14.1 million viewers, handily defeating The Jay Leno Show (5.2 million viewers) and a repeat of The Forgotten (3.3 million viewers), capping off a characteristically strong Tuesday showing for CBS. New holiday episodes of NCIS and NCIS: Los Angeles were watched by 20.5 million viewers and 17.4 million viewers, respectively. Putting up the best fight was NBC's The Sing-Off, which averaged 7 million viewers over two hours and improved 13 percent among adults 18-to-49. Leading out of another airing of A Charlie Brown Christmas (6.6 million viewers), ABC's Scrubs (4.3 million viewers) and Better Off Ted (3.2 million viewers) continued to plunge, with the former down 13 percent and the latter hitting an all-time low in the demo. On Fox, the So You Think You Can Dance performance finale pulled in 6.3 million viewers, but only 4 million viewers tuned into Gordon Ramsay's live cooking show. Two repeats of The Vampire Diaries averaged 1.4 million viewers for the CW. Source here

Tonight's TV Hot List: Tuesday, Dec. 8, 2009 - Featured

The Biggest Loser 8/7c NBC Season 8 comes to a close in this two-hour live finale. Last week, Danny and Rudy secured their spots as finalists, while Liz and Amanda's fate in the competition fell into the hands of viewers voting at home. All is revealed tonight as the third contestant is announced, the at-home players return for one last weigh-in and, of course, the Biggest Loser is named. -- Brie Hearn Disney Prep & Landing 8:30/7:30c ABC It's not easy being an elf. After devoting 227 years of your life to an elite elf organization, sometimes a veteran like Wayne (voice of Dave Foley) can get passed over for a promotion. To make matters worse, his boss (voice of Sarah Chalke) then pairs him with an overeager rookie. But Wayne soldiers on, and he and his new coworker put their know-how to the test when they have to guide Santa through a major snowstorm on Christmas Eve in this 2009 special from Walt Disney Animation Studios. -- Jennifer Sankowski Outer Space Astronauts 9:30/8:30c Syfy Imagine that you told the guys in the cast to lose their razors for a couple days, filmed them reading dialogue that makes them sound like slackers and then grafted their live-action heads onto computer-generated bodies that are a few sizes too small for their heads. Now drape them in uniforms befitting of Starfleet officers, put them in spaceship scenarios that mock planet-of-the-week sci-fi shows -- and you're pretty much set to understand the premiere of this sitcom series. -- Michael Chant Better Off Ted 9:30/8:30c ABC With the health-care debate dominating the news, it's not surprising that the sitcom goes there in the Season 2 premiere. Veridian Dynamics splices romance and science when the company tries to pair employees based on their genetic compatibility in the hope that their future, well-bred offspring won't generate pricey medical bills. Linda initially abhors the idea -- until she meets her match (Taye Diggs). -- Michael Chant 2009: That Really Happened!?!? 9/8c VH1 To paraphrase the Rolling Stones, 2009 had good times, bad times and hard times, too. And as this recap of the pop-culture year that was demonstrates, it had its fair share of scandals, feuds and public embarrassments. Among the grist sure to be singled out: the Kanye West-Taylor Swift VMA debacle, Jon & Kate Plus 8 and Michael Jackson's tragic death. The hour also features a musical recap of '09 from Internet remix DJ Steve Porter. -- Jeff Gemmill Super Dave's Spike-Tacular 9/8c Spike Ladies and gentlemen! Let's ... get ready ... to ... cringe. Dave takes on Quinton "Rampage" Jackson, the UFC mixed-martial-arts fighter who clobbered Keith Jardine back in March, gave Wanderlei Silva a knockout as a late Christmas gift last year, and dealt defeating blows to Chuck Liddell and Marvin Eastman the year before. Fortunately, our beloved host is no stranger to painful injuries. -- Michael Chant

'Better Off Ted' Sneak Peek: Next week's Season 2 Premiere - Featured

Actually, two sneak peeks of the Better Off Ted season premiere! The first clip shows what you should do if you ever blurt out something in bed that you shouldn't (and why you should learn a bit of geography first) and the second clip (after the jump) shows what happens if a coworker reveals a little bit about himself. I'm so glad ABC renewed this show. The season premiere airs next Tuesday at 9:30. Source & Preview
