The Continual Resurrection of Buffy the Vampire Slayer: How the Show Lives on in Fanfiction

Its not surprising that Buffy the Vampire Slayer inspires a Hellmouth-size amount of fanfiction. After all, the television series has a rabid fan base and loads of mythology to unpack and expand upon. The show also gave its titular slayer two ill-fated romances Angel and Spike leaving fans to fulfill those relationship story lines in their own fictionalized worlds. (Sorry, not sorry, Riley.) To truly understand Buffy s fanfic reach, though, consider the following: One site featured 351 Buffy -related fiction updates last month, even though the series ended its run more than a decade ago.   Read More... http://www.vulture.com/2015/11/buffy-fan-fiction.html

Weekend Binge Guide: February 2015

Have the weekend free? Going out is overrated! Binge-watch one of these shows instead:   If you want to laugh ( very occasionally ):   Breaking Bad See all reviews for Breaking Bad If you've somehow managed to not watch Breaking Bad yet, it’s about time you get to it. Its spin-off, Better Call Saul , has just come out, so you should probably catch up. With a trademark sense of humor, great cinematography, and a good storyline, Breaking Bad will both intrigue and amaze. Also, it’s about a high school chemistry professor-turned-drug lord; I mean, how cool is that?       If you want to cry:   Buffy the Vampire Slayer & Angel See all reviews for Buffy the Vampire Slayer & Angel This is a necessary two-parter, people. Both series, created by Joss Whedon (yeah, that guy in charge of the Marvel universe now), follow groups of people fighting monsters and the forces of evil trying to end the world. Even I (a Tin Man of a TV viewer) buckled down crying at more than one point in these shows. Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel are unique fantasy series that will find a warm place in your un-staked heart.       If you want to scream:   Game of Thrones See all reviews for  Game of Thrones This series has a lot of well-deserved hype. Introducing viewers to the fantastical realm world of Westeros, this series follows several people in their quest for power. Entertaining, well-written, and well-performed, George R.R. Martin’s come to life in a very beautiful way. It has dragons, magic, ice zombies, gore, more gore… okay, it has a LOT of gore. There is just so much that is good about this show!        If you want to think:   Six Feet Under See all reviews for  Six Feet Under Brought to TV by Alan Ball (writer of American Beauty ), Six Feet Under analyzes, in darkly humorous fashion, death and how people react to it. It takes a look at a dysfunctional family who runs a funeral home. There aren’t many shows that can get you to laugh, cry, and think, but Six Feet Under does just that. Featuring a beautiful script and powerful acting, this HBO series should be a proud addition to your binge-list.
