'Cake Boss' Buddy Valastro gets cooking advice from beyond the grave

Zap2it: There is a story that your late dad came to you in a dream to give you a recipe that you couldn't re-create. Is that true?Buddy Valastro: It's an Italian pastry that we make. The recipe we always had. It's actually a very simple recipe. It's a very, very hard technique that I have bakers here for 25 years who can't do it. It's the hardest Italian pastry to make, and we were just having a lot of problems re-creating it after he passed away. And I was so focused on it, and I was driving myself crazy, that night I went home and I dreamt of my father, and it was the first time that I dreamt of him after he passed away. And it was funny because I had a pretty great relationship with my dad, and I said, "Oh, wow, Dad, you're here. I can't believe you're here." [Chuckles] True words. And...

'Cake Boss': Buddy Fires His Sister

One of the reasons people are always told to never go into business with family, is so that they can avoid the awkward and uncomfortable situation Buddy Valastro had to face on this week's episode of " Cake Boss " (Mon., 9 p.m. ET on TLC). Buddy has been known to have a mouth on him, and the trait runs in the family. But after one too many instances where her mouth got her into trouble, Buddy had little choice but to pull his sister Mary aside and confront her. And, of course, things wound up in a shouting match. During the shouting match, Buddy made it clear that so long as he was alive, Mary would never ever manage Carlo's Bakery. Her departure created an odd atmosphere for the rest of the staff. While none could deny that things were almost immediately more calm and peaceful, her absence nevertheless left a strange void. Still, a more positive work environment can only improve the work experience for everyone, so this should prove to be the right decision. It's certainly one that some fans have been clamoring for for a long time, some as far back as the first season of the show. The story continues, minus Mary on staff, as "Cake Boss" continues Mondays at 9 p.m. ET on TLC. TV Replay scours the vast television landscape to find the most interesting, amusing, and, on a good day, amazing moments, and delivers them right to your browser.

Someone's Got a Bun in the Oven on 'Cake Boss' (VIDEO)

Telling your co-workers that you're pregnant can be complicated, which may be why baker Heather chose to just slide it into a random conversation on 'Cake Boss' (Mon., 9PM ET on TLC) rather than make a big announcement. Her co-workers were totally unaware that she was pregnant until she said she had to go to the bathroom: "Baby pressing on bladder, I'll go really really fast." Those chef's whites must be very forgiving as, unbelievably, Heather had made it to seven months' pregnant without anyone noticing. Except Chad, who said that he thought she was, but didn't mention it just in case she wasn't.

And  The Hollywood Reporter  has an exclusive sneak peek from the season premiere. On Monday’s debut, the team returns with the challenge of creating a cake shaped as a chandelier, but get this: It has to hang upside down, as well. On top of that it’s time for baby Carlo’s christening and Buddy wants to make sure he pulls out all the stops for the event. Plus, Buddy is just a week away before the opening of the bakery’s state of the art 30,000 square feet facility in Jersey City at the Lackawanna Center and tension is high. Read More...

Regis and Kelly's Special Cakes from the 'Cake Boss' Melt, Get Eaten Anyway (VIDEO)

Last week on 'Live With Regis and Kelly' (weekdays, syndicated), Regis Philbin tried his hand at baking a wedding cake with 'Cake Boss' Buddy Valastro. Valastro suggested they bury and say a prayer over Philbin's creation. This week, Philbin and Kelly Ripa showed off photos of custom cakes the Cake Boss made for their staff party, which ended up melted, but got eaten anyway. The cakes were made to look like busts of Philbin and Ripa, but Ripa wasn't terribly impressed. "The Cake Boss made cakes of us," she said. "I look like you, and I thought your cake looked like Ronald Reagan." Since the party was outdoors, during a heat-wave, they had to put the cakes in the air-conditioned party-bus, but that couldn't save them.
