Callie, played by Sara Ramirez on ABC's Grey's Anatomy, is currently Chief Resident and an orthopedic surgeon at Seattle Grace Hospital. Callie grew up in South Florida. Little is known about Callie's background, except that she is the only daughter of a wealthy family.
After plenty of relationship turmoil, she and boyfriend George O'Malley got married in Vegas on a whim after George's father died. She became suspicious of his friendship with Izzie Stevens which she was right to worry about as George got drunk and slept with Izzie after he and Callie had a fight.
Not knowing what else to do, Callie confronted Izzie in an elevator, begging her to return George to her. Subsequently, Callie decided to have a baby with George, a request to which he agrees to.
In "Didn't We Almost Have It All?", Callie was named the new chief resident, winning over Dr. Miranda Bailey and Dr. Sydney Heron. This gave her the confidence she needed to inform Izzie about her baby plans with George as well as her promotion, thereby making it clear to Izzie that George is off-limits to her.
