Waterborne is a story about a group of Los Angeles residents who attempt to cope with life after a terrorist attack against their water supply. Waterborne premiered at the South by Southwest Film Festival and won the Audience Award. Chris embarked his second project, Intellectual Property, as the leading role and as a producer. Set in the midst of the Cold War, Masterson is Paul, an inventor who goes to great lengths to protect his inventions.

Perhaps the most comedic was his guest appearance in three episodes of FOX's hit series That 70's Show where he played Todd, the manager of a cheese shop.
