More Information
Tim Burton's Corpse Bride is a 2005 Academy Award-nominated stop-motion-animation film based loosely on a 19th century Russian-Jewish folktale version of an older Jewish story and set in a fictional Victorian era England. The characters have been voiced by an All Star crew lead by Johnny Depp.
The movie tells the story of Victor (voiced by Johnny Depp), who is supposed to marry Victoria (voiced by Emily Watson), a girl he has never seen before. Not being sure if he wants this, he unconsciously ruins the wedding rehersal. In his doubt and misery he walks into the woods, where he accidentially speaks the marriage vow in front of a grave, effectively marrying the corpse of a murdered bride that lies there. Being forced into the Land of the Dead, he finds himself both attracted to Emily, the corpse bride (voiced by Helena Bonham Carter), as well as Victoria, who in the meantime is supposed to marry the rich newcomer Lord Bittern (voiced by Richard E. Grant), who is no one else than the murderer of Emily.
The film features a lot of singing interludes of the characters that give the movie a musical touch.
