'Damages' Season 5 teaser: Things do not look good for Ellen

DirecTV has released a teaser for the final season of "Damages," and while it doesn't reveal anything about the story, it does strongly imply that however the series ends, it won't be great for Ellen Parsons. The 20-second spot starts on a rooftop, then quickly descends to the alley below, where we see a phone, a purse, part of a leg, an arm -- it's a debris field, basically. Ominous "Jaws"-meets-"Inception" music plays as the camera pans over to Ellen's (Rose Byrne) seemingly lifeless face. Ouch.Season 4 of "Damages" ended with Ellen and Patty Hewes (Glenn Close) on the outs -- for real -- and Season 5 promises to put them on opposing sides of a case. The central mystery will revolve around the operator of a Wikileaks-esque website (Ryan Phillippe); Jenna Elfman, John Hannah and Janet McTeer will also figure into the story. The final season of "Damages" premieres July 11 on DirecTV....

Damages Exclusive: Meet Patty Hewes' Father!

How did Glenn Close 's ruthless Damages lawyer get so damaged? We'll find out when the DirecTV drama returns for its fifth and final season.

First Look: Damages Ups the Girl Power

When Patty Hewes talks, people listen — and the same goes for Glenn Close . "Last year felt a little guy-heavy," says the star of Damages , which featured John Goodman, Dylan Baker and Chris Messina in Season 4. "So Rose Byrne and I asked the producers to bring in more strong females."

Jenna Elfman, John Hannah Join 'Damages'

Jenna Elfman and 'Spartacus' star John Hannah are joining Ryan Phillippe in Season 5 of 'Damages.' According to Deadline , Elfman will play an investment bank employee who becomes troubled by her company's behavior. Elfman's character approaches Channing McClaren (Phillippe), the founder of a Wikileaks-esque web site. Look for McClaren to turn to Ellen Parsons (Rose Byrne) for help. The Season 5 case pits Patty Hewes (Glenn Close) and Ellen up against each other.

Damages Season 4 Finale Promo: Failure is Lonely

"If you back down like this, you will never win any of the cases that you believe in." Going into the finale of what has been a tremendous season of Damages , it looks like Ellen and Patty are on the ropes with their case against private security contractor Howard Erickson (John Goodman) and his High Star company. The two may have made it farther than most in terms of pursuing the unpursuable, but thanks to the deal that Ellen made at the tail end of last week's episode, it all may be for naught. This is all assuming, of course, that Chris Sanchez (Chris Messina) is still alive and not the beheaded man that Ellen walks in on during the show's flash forward this season, as Ellen will only be dropping the case against High Star if he's returned safely to the United States. When last we saw Sanchez, he was knocking on death's door, being hauled around by a group of men hired by High Star to kill him before he leaks any information about the illegal activities of Erickson and henchman Jerry Boorman (Dylan Baker). Damages — A Fine (Chris) Messina

The handsome actor has often been stranded in bland roles, from Lauren Ambrose's buttoned-down lover on  Six Feet Under  to Rebecca Hall's cuckolded fiancé in  Vicky Cristina Barcelona  and Amy Adams' milquetoast husband in  Julie & Julia . But as Chris Sanchez, an ethically tortured soldier-for-hire held captive by a military contractor in Afghanistan, Messina fully commits to a grueling role. Read More...

Damages - Hail, Judd Hirsch!

The Emmy-winning  Taxi  vet has mostly been stuck in low-gear shows like  Numb3rs  in recent years. His masterful guest turn in tonight's episode of DirecTV's top-drawer legal thriller could change all that. Hirsch plays Bill Herndon, the hard-drinking horndog legal mentor to Patty Hewes (Glenn Close), who asks him to assist her protégé Ellen Parsons (Rose Byrne) in the probe of dirty-dealing military contractor High Star. Our verdict is unanimous: He's guilty of stealing every one of his scenes. Read More...

Damages: Can Chris Messina's Sanchez Trust His Superiors?

There's a good reason Damages ' Chris Messina seems jittery most of the time he's on the screen — and it's only partly because his character is a soldier suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder. "I felt a huge responsibility to the soldiers to make it as honest as I could," Messina tells "I played a lot with sleep, and I think the most I didn't sleep was three days in a row. And I'm not a caffeine drinker, but I would play with drinking a bunch of Red Bull before the take. So, the sleep deprivation on top of the instant sugar-caffeine rush ended up making me very shaky." John Goodman Dishes on 'Damages' and 'Monsters, Inc' Sequel on 'The View' (VIDEO)

John Goodman covered a good portion of his career, past, present, and future in his interview on 'The View' (weekdays, syndicated on ABC) Wednesday. He talked about his current role on 'Damages,' whether Roseanne Barr would make a good president, 'The Big Lebowski,' and a 'Monsters, Inc.' sequel. Sherri Shepherd said 'Damages' creators wanted him for the role of Howard T. Erickson, CEO of a military contractor, because he was both "cuddly" and "fierce." She asked if he agreed with that assessment, and Goodman laughed. "Like one of those imported Chinese pandas stuffed with cotton and auto parts and drain cleaner," he said.
