The Most Mature and Well Written Western EVER!
You say the western as a genre sucks, right? I agree. Most westerns suck because the people behind them don't understand what makes the genre work. Westerns, at their core, are Greek tragedies American-style.

Deadwood features many historical figures, such as Wild Bill Hickok, Seth Bullock, Sol Star, Calamity Jane, Al Swearengen, Wyatt Earp, E. B. Farnum and George Hearst. The plotlines involving these characters include historical truths as well as substantial fictional elements. Some of the characters are fully fictional, although they certainly may have been based on actual persons.
The show was created by David Milch (NYPD Blue), who also serves as executive producer and head writer. The theme music was written by David Schwartz.
The third and final season premiered on June 11, 2006, ended on August 27, 2006, and will be followed by two feature length TV movies, to be broadcast on HBO. These films, expected to air in 2007, will tie up various series plotlines.

Summary
Deadwood Premiere: March 21, 2004 The outlaw camp of Deadwood marches slowly towards civilization, facing its first elections. But the power struggles continue over everything in Deadwoodââ¬âinfluence, money, and whoresââ¬âas the founding camp members form strategic alliances to face down the threat of a powerful newcomer, seeking to remake Deadwood in his image. Created and executive produced by David Milch ("NYPD Blue"), Deadwood is one of most acclaimed dramas on television. The series was nominated for 22 Emmysî and won 7 and earned a Golden Globeî Award in its first two seasons for Ian McShane.
