Michael C. Hall talks 'Dexter' endgame: Could series go beyond 8 seasons?

Is "Dexter" really ending after Season 8? "That's the likely scenario," Showtime entertainment president David Nevins told reporters at the TCA press tour. "I'm not making any announcements today, but plans can always change. I think everything has gotten rewired this year in a very interesting way, given that Deb [Jennifer Carpenter] has to deal with who her brother is. We'll see where that carries us." But is Michael C. Hall, the serial killer drama's Emmy-winning star, willing to be carried that far? "It's difficult in the midst of shooting this seventh season -- with some sort of at least vague sense that the final episode of the eighth will be the last -- to imagine it going beyond that," Hall said. "But you know, we finished the first season and I thought we should probably just stop -- what are we going to do now? "I would never say never, but I think the...

Two New Dexter Promos: Are They Sexy or Sinister?

Double the Dexter , double the drama. Showtime has released two new promos for the upcoming seventh season. Both trailers feature Deb and Dexter, writhing around under black sheets — in separate beds, thankfully.

'Dexter' Season 7: Dexter worries about Deb, while Deb writhes around in bed

"Dexter" continues to drop hints as to what is in store for the Season 7 premiere. In this latest promo, Deb is the focus as Dexter voiceovers:"It's my worst nightmare. Uncontrollable, inescapable. My dark passenger exposed to the one person I've always thought I could protect from it. And I don't know what happens next. I found a way to live with my secret, but I never had a choice. Does she?"The imagery is powerful - it shows Deb writhing around in bed, trapped beneath a black sheet. Which definitely calls to mind not only what she saw Dexter do (via the voiceover) but also her own secret - that she's in love with Dexter. Looks like some heady stuff come Sunday, September 30 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on Showtime....

'Dexter' Season 7 Promos Suggest an 'Inescapable' Nightmare

Presenting similar theme and scene where Dexter and Debra alternately writhe beneath a dark sheet, each of the promos has its own different ending.

'Dexter' 'Definitely' Ending After Season 8

"Dexter" is "definitely" ending after Season 8 , executive producer Sara Colleton confirmed in an interview with TV Guide. When Showtime's serial killer thriller was renewed for two more seasons mid-way through Season 6, it was widely assumed that episode order would be its closing run. But Showtime president David Nevins left his options open, telling at the time of the renewal, “I’m not going to say with absolute certainty that this is the end, but that is the likely scenario, that the series is moving towards a definite end.” Now, Colleton has moved the end-game a step closer. "This was definite," she clarified . "We wanted to end it this year, but the network convinced us that it would be best to do it in two years. In some ways, this is a two-season series-ender. We have worked that out and know where it's going to end. Next year will definitely be the last year of 'Dexter.' Absolutely." With Showtime pot comedy "Weeds" also slated to end after its upcoming eighth season , the premium network is entering something of a transitional period. "There were two shows, 'Weeds' and 'Dexter,' that really got Showtime taken seriously for cutting-edge original programming," Nevins recently told EW . "How they get brought home is really important."
