With Dexter Season 7 scarcely in the books, and with LaGuerta's body likely still warm, TV Guide chatted with showrunner Scott Buck to gain insight into the final season of this Showtime smash, with all eyes now focused on Dexter and his murderous step-sister. As you might expect, that final scene "is definitely going to affect [Deb] and Dexter in a very big way," Buck teases. Dexter Season Finale Promo: How Did We End Up Here?

Last night's Dexter episode, the penultimate episode of Season 7, left us examining the beloved, murderous titular character's future as much as he was. There's only one hour left this winter and one season beyond it. As we mused in our Dexter review , he's reached a critical juncture. Dexter feels that the only moment in which he can live is the present one, and that the future is too murky for thoughts about it to be entertained, let alone acted upon. But he may soon not have a choice in the matter. On next Sunday's season-ender, Dex must protect himself as LaGuerta closes in on his secret with the same dogged determination Doakes displayed before he died, which brings the show full circle in dramatic fashion. Having Estrada released from prison was a bold, calculated move on her part, believing the Bay Harbor Butcher would strike.
