Nick, who is watching as Ethel unlocks and enters Dr Legg's office, suddenly pops in after her, giving her a fright. When Ethel complains to Nick about how she is being what she calls "ostragized" by the people who run the laundrette, Nick grabs the keys away, claiming that he needs them to awaken Lofty, before he then spends the rest of the day asking people to bring Ethel their dirty washing. As Dr Legg complains to Ethel about Nick being in the surgery, reminding her that no one else is to be there when she is cleaning, he also hands her his dirty laundry.
