It was re-run from 1998 to 1999. The series was a Nelvana and Fox Kids Company production in association with Savage Studios Ltd. It was about a purple cat named Eek! (exclamation mark included) whose motto was "it never hurts to help". This very attitude, though, always got him into trouble, from which much of the humor of the show was derived. Other characters included Eek!'s human family, with whom he cannot communicate via spoken language; his girlfriend, Annabelle; and her pet shark dog, Sharky. In the second season, another segment was added to the show, The Terrible Thunderlizards, called Eek! And The Terrible Thunderlizards, then another show, Klutter! in its fourth and fifth season, as Eek! Stravaganza.

Eek! The Cat featured slapstick humor and pop culture references. Shows varied from standard cartoon fare to movie spoofs (Apocalypse Now, A Clockwork Orange) and musical episodes; the first Christmas special was written entirely in rhyme. The show featured many cameos by celebrities, some of whom came back for several episodes.

A video game closely based on the series was released for Super NES.
