When Andy McGee met his future wife, Vicky, they were earning extra money for college by participating in a medical experiment organised by Dr Joseph Wanless and a secret government department known as "The Shop".

During the experiment, Andy and Vicky were each given a dose of a chemical called LOT-6 which resulted in the gain of telekinetic ability. It also gave Andy the ability to make people do what he wants.

After they were married, Andy and Vicky had a daughter named Charlene "Charlie" McGee. Charlie, affected by her parents' participation in the experiment, is now a healthy nine-year-old with the ability to start fires at will.

When Dr Wanless and his organization learn of the result of Andy's deviation from the normal results, and the development in Charlie, they send a sniper named John Rainbird to find Andy and Charlie.

What Wanless and his group underestimate is their williness to do anything to protect each other.
