Gotye disses the 'Glee' cover of 'Somebody That I Used to Know'

As far as TV performances of Gotye's "Somebody That I Used to Know" go, the version that most lived up to the original's haunting, painful tone was the cover from Darren Criss and Matt Bomer on "Glee." But Australian singer Gotye says he didn't love the tribute. "They did such a faithful arrangement of the instrumentals but the vocals were that pop 'Glee' style -- ultra dry, sounded pretty tuned and the rock has no real sense, like it's playing to you from a cardboard box,'' he tells Aussie newspaper The Courier-Mail.It's not a complete diss, but it's no stamp of approval either.Frankly, Gotye is just as tired of the constant covers as everyone else. He says he's "sometimes" sick of his own song, too. "Not so much when I sing it. I don't always look at all of the parodies and covers that people send me. It gets to that point where it starts...

'Glee' honors Whitney Houston with an a cappella 'How Will I Know' - Watch

The first clip from the big "Glee" Whitney Houston tribute, "I Wanna Dance With Somebody," is in, and be forewarned: you might cry when you watch Amber Riley, Lea Michele, Naya Rivera and Chris Colfer absolutely slay a chilling a cappella version of Houston's classic "How Will I Know."Really -- it's goosebump-inducing like the best moments of Season 1 were, and it's also really, really promising in terms of how this whole Whitney tribute will play out. Although the music of Michael Jackson is just as (if not more) iconic, it seems like this episode could turn out better than Season 3's other tribute just because they're being more creative with the song arrangements. Remember how well the Madonna episode worked? As for context, it's unclear what's going on before the song occurs, but during, the New Directions members hang out at a locker shrine dedicated to Whitney before they walk 'n sing through the...

Glee Sneak Peek: "How Will I Know"

As any frequent readers of my Glee reviews is aware, I have not been a huge fan of season three, specifically the second half of episodes. Moreover, my least favorite installments are often the show's tributes to iconic artists, as they typically focus far more on honoring that week's chosen singer over any kind of consistent plot or character development. These feel more like concerts than television episodes. But... man, the following Whitney Houston cover is terrific. It features Mercedes, Kurt, Rachel and Santana stripping down the single "How Will I Know" and it's an instant Glee classic. Watch now:

Glee Episode Preview: A Tribute to Whitney

Glee wants to dance with somebody next Tuesday night. With somebody who loves it. Sadly, based on the recent ratings for this former smash, along with the general reaction to my latest Glee review , the Fox series may have difficulty tracking down that individual. Still, it will move along toward the end of senior year for Finn, Rachel, Kurt and company with an upcoming tribute to Whitney Houston. As you can see in the following trailer, the episode will focus once again on the graduating class, while also advancing Will and Emma's wedding storyline. To next month? To the season finale, perhaps? View the trailer now.

Glee Preview: The Glee Kids Pay Tribute to Whitney Houston

In this week's Glee , Mr. Schue used disco as a way to help some of the directionless kids figure out their dreams.  Singling out Mercedes, Santana and Finn as three kids who didn't really have a future plan, he asked them to figure out what they wanted to do after graduation.  Mercedes wants to be a musical legend and Sam helped her take the first step by posting one of her performances on YouTube.  Santana originally wanted to be famous, but Britney and Sue helped her get a scholarship to university, which will give her more time to figure out what she wants to pursue.  Finally, Finn decided he wanted to be an actor and will be accompanying Rachel to New York and applying for the Actor's Studio.  Jonathan Groff also returned very briefly as Jesse St. James, the Vocal Adrenaline coach, but he was cheated, because his appearance was far too short for such a fun guest star.
