Kelley (Chris Klein), a rich, bratty high school kid and Jasper (Josh Hartnett) a country boy destroy a diner owned by Sams (Lelee Sobieski) family in a joy ride. Kelley is forced to community service by helping to reconstruct the diner, where he falls in love with Sam, who is dying, and finds himself choosing between going to College like his dad wants or staying by Sams side.
