Jake spent two years co-starring as Cam Dunleavey in the TV series The Zack Files.

Jake received a 2003 Gemini Award for Best Performance in a Children's or Youth Program series and was nominated for a Young Artist Award for a Leading Young Actor in a TV Series category for Degrassi in 2004. He was a 2003 nominee of a Young Artist Award for Best Ensemble Actor in a TV Series for Degrassi.

Jake appeared in the film Charlie Bartlett, starring Robert Downey Jr.

In 2007, Jake traveled to Africa with five members of the Degrassi cast to build a school in Kenya with the organization Free the Children. A documentary about the trip aired on MTV in Canada.

In 2008, Jake graduated from the National Theatre School of Canada in Montreal.
