At trial, they said to Reggie," Fin asked Reggie. "Is it more to it than that?" But by this point, Reggie was resigned to his fate. "I did kill him. And I can’t take that back," he said. On Wednesday night's (Feb. 6) episode of "Law & Order: SVU," boxer and convicted rapist Mike Tyson guest-starred as Reggie Rhodes, a murderer on death row whose crimes stemmed from being abused as a child. In 1992, Tyson was convicted of raping Desiree Washington, Miss Black Rhode Island, in a hotel room in Indianapolis. He was sentenced to six years in prison, but was released after three years. Tyson always maintained it was consensual. There was a protest launched against Tyson's being cast on a show that purports to support victims and survivors of abuses. However, Tyson wasn't portraying a rapist. He was portraying a man who maintained he was sexually abused by several male authority figures as a kid and that's why he killed a man who was abusing him as an adult. What did you think? Do you think casting Tyson was a misstep on "SVU's" part? That aside, what did you think of... http://blog.zap2it.com/frominsidethebox/2013/02/law-order-svu-mike-tyson-guest-stars-as-an-abuse-victim---what-did-you-think.html

Nia Vardalos made a guest appearance on " Law & Order: Special Victims Unit " as a very aggressive defense attorney squaring off against Assistant District Attorney Barba. She made it her mission to turn the jury against Barba, but did she take it too far? At one point she said, "What am I thinking right now? That I wish I’d had a second cup of coffee before court this morning? Or that Mr. Barba’s prosecution is so wrong, that he should be taken out and shot?" Even the judge thought that last line was a bit much, warning Vardalos' character to watch herself. The ploy didn't work either, as her client turned out to be guilty. But Vardalos had a lot of fun playing the character. And, of course, she explained to The Deadbolt that this character -- like all her others -- was inspired by one of her 28 cousins . This one is a former prosecutor from Cook County, Illinois. Justice always gets its man, or woman, on "Law & Order: SVU" every Wednesday at 9 p.m. EST on NBC. For actors, bad guys are always supposed to be the best parts. But after playing criminals on both Law & Order and Law & Order: Criminal Intent , Raul Esparza says he's having just as much fun playing someone on the right side of the law on Law & Order: SVU — if not more. "I don't think there's anything nice about [ADA Rafael] Barba. He's kind of an a--hole, but I love him," Esparza tells TVGude.com. "And that's OK. He's fundamentally a good person and gets the job done." Since debuting in the third episode of the season, Esparza has become the SVU squad's new ... http://www.tvguide.com/News/SVU-Raul-Esparza-1060092.aspx?rss=breakingnews
If Mike Tyson had been cast on any TV series other than NBC's Law & Order: SVU , it wouldn't have sparked such a firestorm.
