* Leverage (10/9c TNT ) The con is on, and it turns intensely personal for crew captain Nate Ford upon the discovery that his ex-wife (Kari Matchett) has been nabbed and is languishing in a Ukrainian prison. Nate's stealthy outlaws set out to rescue her - but in order for their scheme to succeed, they must join forces with longstanding nemesis Jim Sterling (Mark A. Sheppard). Jeri Ryan continues her winter guest-star arc as grifter Tara Cole. * State of the Union (9/8c ABC, CBS, Fox, NBC, PBS, CNN, Fox NEWS, MSNBC) In his first State of the Union speech, President Obama is expected to recap his administration's triumphs in 2009 (chief among them, from his perspective: preventing the Great Recession from turning into a depression) and outline his 2010 goals, which will likely include scaled-back health-care reform, tougher banking regulations and- - given that unemployment remains at 10 percent - job creation. Following the address, Virginia governor Bob McDonnell will offer the GOP spin on things. * Psych (10/9c USA Network ) Shawn and Gus return for the second half of their fourth season with a big guest star (literally): John Cena. The WWE champ plays Juliet's brother, Ewan, a former military man who's now working as a mercenary. Shawn gets tangled up in Army affairs when he comes to suspect that a soldier's suicide was really a murder and that Ewan could be involved. * Nip/Tuck (10/9c FX ) Poor Kimber! First, she got herself caught up in the rift between Sean and Christian, and then last week she was dumped by both Christian and Mike Hamoui. No wonder she jumped off Hamoui's boat. Whether she's actually dead wasn't made clear, but we're likely to find out tonight, when her mother (Melanie Griffith) shows up. In any event, McNamara/Troy won't be a happy place, but Sean will be going to Africa with his humanitarian friend, Curtis Ryerson (George Newbern), won't he? * Tavis Smiley Reports (8/7c PBS) If the book Game Change by reporters John Heilemann and Mark Halperin is to be believed, Hillary Clinton initially turned down Barack Obama's offer to become secretary of state. Let's be glad she changed her mind: As a representative of America and American values, she's done her country proud. In this first installment of a quarterly, issue-oriented series from Tavis Smiley, she discusses her first year on the job and is shown at work abroad, on Capitol Hill and at the State Department. On Wednesday, January 13th, the caper-tastic Leverage returns to TNT with the second half of it's second season. In the summer finale, "The Lost Heir Job," we all saw Jeri Ryan ("Star Trek: Voyager") go from "client" to the team's new "grifter" filling the hole in the team left by Gina Bellman's Sophie. Sophie has gone off to Europe to reflect on her life of lies and duplicity (as actress Bellman reflects upon her real-life pregnancy), Ryan's Tara has joined up with the cause ready to swindle the criminal and dupe the devious. We had a chance to talk to Leverage's Beth Riesgraf, who plays the endearingly quirky Parker about the winter return of her show and the upcoming Leverage fan convention - dubbed the CON-CON: AN OFFICIAL LEVERAGE EVENT - taking place March 19-21, 2010 at the Governor Hotel in Portland, Oregon where two episodes of the series were filmed. Having been off the air since September, Leverage begins the second half of its second season run on January 13. On that date's episode - titled "The Runway Job" - the team cons the owners of a clothing company after it grossly mistreats its employees. As the following photos from the installment depict, Jeri Ryan is still around as Tara Cole, a welcome addition to the series for any warm-blooded males with eyes. This morning some good news leaked out sooner than expected, although I don't think it was that big a surprise to learn that TNT is bringing Leverage back on Wednesday, January 13 at 10 p.m. Surprise news or not, it's still great to know that we have fresh episodes coming in early 2010. There are six episodes of Leverage left from season two, then the third season will commence in the summer. This set up is a lot like The Closer, and you know how well that split schedule has been working. By the way, you do know that split schedules is one of the things I'm most grateful about this holiday season, don't you? Leverage had a very good freshman season, but I was enjoying the sophomore season even more. Nate was more vulnerable and at least initially reluctant to get the group back together again. And there was the matter of his drinking. Sophie was having relationship issues. Hardison and Parker were dancing around their lust for each other. Eliot was given more character development, like his connection to kids. The cons were interesting, the effects very cool, and in a consistently fun way, they were winning me over week after week. January can't come soon enough for me. Source Here
