VMAs 2013: Lady Gaga debuts 'Applause' while nearly nude

Leave it to Lady Gaga to come back to the music scene with a bang. After being sidelined with a hip injury that required surgery back in February, Gaga is back and better than ever. She gave the debut performance of her latest single, "Applause," at the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards -- what did you think?Gaga started out in a large white outfit and was wearing next-to-nothing by the end of the performance. She flashed her butt in a teeny thong, but that's nothing new -- that's the Gaga we know and love. Video of the performance below. Gaga's new album, titled "ARTPOP," is due out Nov. 11, 2013. VMAs 2013: Bruno Mars' 'Gorilla' - King Kong ain't got nothin' on you

Fresh off a Best Male Video win for "Locked Out of Heaven," Bruno Mars took to the MTV Video Music Awards 2013 stage to perform his new single, "Gorilla." There was smoke, lasers and a giant gorilla that kept popping onto the screen behind him. We'll confess -- it's not our favorite Mars' song. It's lacking the catchiness of his normal offerings. But hew as definitely giving 100 percent in the performance. Love to see someone actually sing live and rock it out. The video will be below when we have it. "Gorilla" is the fourth single off Mars' 2012 album "Unorthodox Jukebox." He is currently on his "Moonshine Jungle" world tour to promote said album. After wrapping in the U.S. on Sept. 1, he'll be heading for Europe for October and November and then on to Australia in March 2014.... http://blog.zap2it.com/frominsidethebox/2013/08/vmas-2013-bruno-mars-gorilla---king-kong-aint-got-nothin-on-you.html

MTV VMAs 2013: Kanye West's 'Blood on the Leaves' not a hit with censors

If you tuned into the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards to see Kanye West perform, you likely missed quite a bit of the show. It was originally believed that he would be singing "Black Skinhead," but he surprised the audience with another song, "Blood on the Leaves."The majority of the song saw just his silhouette in front of a backdrop of leaves, which looked nice enough. There was also all kinds of autotune on his voice, but that's not unusual for Kanye. The real surprise came at the end of the song, when most of the audio was dropped out for language. That's what happens when you let the F-words and N-words fly with little regard for the cameras capturing your every move and broadcasting them to the world. The audience, who was able to hear the song, absolutely loved it. So it seems Yeezy can still get the crowd to eat out of the palm of... http://blog.zap2it.com/frominsidethebox/2013/08/mtv-vmas-2013-kanye-wests-blood-on-the-leaves-not-a-hit-with-censors.html

MTV VMAs 2013: Justin Timberlake gets the spotlight, *NSYNC gets a chorus

In what may be the longest performance in MTV Video Music Awards history -- and definitely the longest in this particular edition of the kudofest without either nudity or simulated sex -- Michael Jackson Video Vanguard winner Justin Timberlake ran through a chunk of his solo catalog and threw a brief bone to his old *NSYNC buddies.Wearing a suit jacket, fedora and silver-tipped white shoes, Timberlake popped, locked and stepped his way through, among others, "Cry Me a River," "My Love," "Like I Love You," "Sexy Back," "Take Back the Night" and "Suit & Tie."Covering the entire stage at one point or another, Timberlake welcomed -- in a don't-get-a-sammich-or-you'll-miss-it moment -- the remainder of *NSYNC for a quick dance hit and a bit of the 2000 hit "Bye Bye Bye."The celebrity-studdied audience in Brooklyn, N.Y., seemed appreciative, with visible grooving from Will Smith, Rihanna, the lads of New Direction and Lady Gaga (who, still dressed... http://blog.zap2it.com/frominsidethebox/2013/08/mtv-video-music-awards-2013-justin-timberlake-nsync.html

MTV VMAs 2013: One Direction booed as 'Best Song Ever' beats 'Blurred Lines' and 'We Can't Stop'

When you think of the best song of the summer, what pops instantly into your head? Probably the songs that are always constantly played on the radio, a.k.a. Robin Thicke's "Blurred Lines" and Miley Cyrus' "We Can't Stop," right?Well, according to the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards, the Best Song of the Summer is actually One Direction's "Best Song Ever." Voted on by the public, MTV tallied up which song best captured summer 2013 and One Direction won in a landslide of over 8.6 million votes.Shocking, right? The audience certainly thought so, as the boy band was booed during their entire acceptance speech. Ouch.Taylor Swift was definitely on the same page as the audience, since she was caught on camera saying, "Shut the f*** up," to BFF Selena Gomez when One Direction took the stage earlier in the night. Clearly, there is little love lost between Swift and One Direction's Harry Styles.Check out the... http://blog.zap2it.com/frominsidethebox/2013/08/mtv-vmas-2013-one-directions-best-song-ever-beats-blurred-lines-and-we-cant-stop-for-best-song-of-th.html

VMAs 2013: Taylor Swift calls out Harry Styles after winning best female video

Hey, Taylor Swift? Be a better winner. The superstar won the Video Music Award for best female video Sunday (Aug. 25) for her song "I Knew You Were Trouble," and she started by thanking the clip's director, Anthony Mandler, and her co-star, Broadway actor Reeve Carney. And then, well, she felt the need to bring up the fact that the song is about One Direction's Harry Styles, who happened to be a few rows in front of her (1D presented an award earlier in the show). "I also want to thank the person who inspired this song, who knows exactly who he is," Swift said. "Because now I've got one of these. Thank you very much!"(When the song was released, most of the speculation was that the song was about John Mayer. A widely cited Times of London profle of Swift from March, however, claimed she confirmed it was Styles.)The camera naturally cut to Styles, who maintained... http://blog.zap2it.com/frominsidethebox/2013/08/vmas-2013-taylor-swift-calls-out-harry-styles-after-winning-best-female-video.html

MTV VMAs 2013: Kevin Hart warns Taylor Swift and Selena Gomez to steer clear of Robin Thicke

Comedian Kevin Hart is not hosting the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards, and he wants to be sure he drives that point home. Are you listening, MTV? Kevin Hart really wants to host the VMAs again. Hart took the stage Sunday (Aug. 25) to make sure the crowd would "turn it up." While there, he rattled off a few funnies, including:"Miley better get a d*** pregnancy test after all that grinding." Her twerk-heavy performance of "We Can't Stop" morphed into a duet of "Blurred Lines" with Robin Thicke that would have Liam Hemsworth seeing red if he and Miley were still together -- which, come on. Who believes they are still together at this point?Next, Hart called out besties Taylor Swift and Selena Gomez -- who sat together to watch the night's performances -- telling them to "stay the h*** away" from Thicke. "Unless y'all want to end up on a d*** Amber Alert or... http://blog.zap2it.com/frominsidethebox/2013/08/mtv-vmas-2013-kevin-hart-warns-taylor-swift-and-selena-gomez-to-steer-clear-of-robin-thicke.html

VMAs 2013: Macklemore and Ryan Lewis forget Mary Lambert in 'Same Love' acceptance speech

Macklemore and Ryan Lewis won the Best Social Message Song for "Same Love" at the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards and Macklemore gave an impassioned speech about its importance when he accepted the award:I'll be honest, I really wanted to win the Best Rap Video, but this Moonman right here stands for a lot more. I've been writing songs, since I was like 15 years old and out of every single song I have ever written, this is the most important record out of all of them. To watch this song, in the last year, spread across the world is a testament to what is happening right now in America on the forefront of equality. Gay rights are human rights, there is no separation.Macklemore's message is great, to be sure, but almost as an afterthought, Ryan Lewis goes, "And of course, Mary Lambert!" as they are exiting the stage. In case you weren't aware, Mary... http://blog.zap2it.com/frominsidethebox/2013/08/vmas-2013-macklemore-and-ryan-lewis-forget-mary-lambert-in-same-love-acceptance-speech.html

MTV Video Music Awards 2013: Macklemore, Ryan Lewis hold onto their hip-hop power

"Can't Hold Us"? Well, Macklemore and Ryan Lewis are holding their own on the award circuit. After their chart-topping hit -- featuring Ray Dalton -- scored the Choice R&B Hip-Hop Song honor at the Teen Choice Awards two weeks earlier, it won the Best Hip-Hop song category at the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday (Aug. 25).Taking the stage with his main partners on the tune at Barclays Center in Brooklyn (N.Y.), Seattle native Macklemore (nee Ben Haggerty) declared, "That we are up here with the Moon Man (the nickname for the award's image) is insane!"He then recounted "all these ideas" he had for visuals ... "need a camel, need a dude with dreadlocks in an ice cave. And that became a music video," directed by Lewis, who then took over the thanks with a list of specific names including Dalton's.While he expressed "thanks to our families, and thanks to our fans around the world,"... http://blog.zap2it.com/frominsidethebox/2013/08/vmas-2013-macklemore-ryan-lewis-hold-onto-their-hip-hop-power.html
