Molly Kagan - Character

Molly Kagan is the main character on USA's 2007 Starter Wife played by Debra Messing. Molly married her movie studio exec. husband, Kenny Kagan, ten years previous to the start of the show.

In the premier episode, Molly is dumped by her husband who wants to focus on his career, and as she discovers later, sleeping with women like youthful pop star, Shoshanna. Her divorce makes Molly a "starter wife" which means she's shunned by the other rich Hollywood wives, has her swanky club membership revoked, all of her social lunches canceled, and is even kicked out of her charity event planning groups. Luckily though, she has three best friends who are true (with perhaps a little wavering along the way) to Molly despite her starter wife status including Joan McAllister, Cricket Stewart, and Rodney.

Molly decides to take off from her house and life in Hollywood to Joan's summer home which Joan won't be using due to her summer vacation to France, aka rehab. Molly is still surrounded by other vacationing Hollywood wives and couples, but finds retreat in time on the beach alone and with her daughter, Jaden, and in a couple of new romantic possibilities in her ex-husband's boss, Lou Manahan, and a very sexy and mysterious man, Sam, who saved her life on the beach.
