NCIS: Los Angeles has just picked up for a second season - and with that vote of confidence from CBS, the freshman procedural is ready to elevate its game. That's according to executive producer Shane Brennan. âIt has a very, very good pedigree,â jokes Brennan of the NCIS spinoff, before adding âEveryoneâs fear was that NCIS: LA would be just a clone, and itâs not.â To date, NCIS: Los Angeles has regularly retained a massive portion of NCIS' lead-in audience, averaging 17 million total viewers. Even opposite American Idolâs season premiere last week, Chris OâDonnell, LL Cool J and company drew nearly 16 million. The NCIS team will have to solve the murder of a Marine who is killed by an explosive device planted on his cell phone when "NCIS: Los Angeles" returns to CBS next Tuesday, December 15. Titled "Brimstone", the series' upcoming 1.10 episode will, moreover, witness the team races to find the remaining men of the Marine's former EOD (explosive ordnance disposal) unit before another deadly explosion kills someone else. "NCIS: Los Angeles", which is a spin-off of "NCIS: Naval Criminal Investigative Service", was premiered on CBS on September 22, 2009 and has been given a full-season pickup by the network starting in October. The season was extended again on November 4, 2009, when CBS announced its order for an additional two episodes. In 1.09 episode, the NCIS team had to investigate a top Naval Engineer's murder, which was done by a suspect they called the "Phantom". Source & Preview
As Christmas and a new year approaches, NCIS fans have a possible love interest for Gibbs to look forward to. But what about developments on the West Coast? Shane Brennan, who produces NCIS and its highly-rated spinoff, says viewers can expect 'a shocking arc with a massive twist' in early 2010. This development will reportedly involve LL Cool J's Sam Hanna and not be resolved until May. 'It will involve a man from his past,' Brennan told TV Guide Magazine, offering few other spoilers regarding the storyline.
