The relationship between Grey's Anatomy's Dr. Miranda Bailey and Dr. Ben Warren may not have worked out, but there's a good reason: actor Jason George is moving on to play another doctor, this time on ABC's Off the Map (also produced by Grey's Shonda Rimes), premiering January 12. "I would love to [return to Grey's], but I can easily see where the network and Shonda may have problems with that," George told TV Guide Magazine at the ABC TCA party on January 10. "With this show launching as big as it's launching right now, it's easiest to just have my face associated with this character." On the jungle-set Off the Map George plays "hard-ass" Otis Cole, who will soon have a hard time defining his relationship with two female doctors. "Otis says early on, 'There ain't no HR department in the jungle,' and then you begin to realize as things go on that there's a reason there are HR departments," says George. "It gets complicated and that gets interesting." To Read More Click Here.

As ABC’s iconic Lost came to an end, Jenna Bans saw an opportunity. The creator of Off the Map, a South America-set medical drama/action-adventure series premiering Wednesday, thought Lost’s Hawaii locations would be the “perfect fit” for an idea she’d been kicking around about a Doctors Without Borders-type medical series set in the jungle. “The genesis [for Off the Map] came at the same time as Lost was ending,” she said Monday at the Television Critics Association press stop of the Hawaii sets that would be up for grabs once the mystery drama concluded. When details about ABC's newest medical show, "Off the Map," began to surface last spring, critics quickly found their catchphrase, but producer Shonda Rimes insists that despite first impressions, "OTM" is not "'Grey's Anatomy' in the jungle."We "put the scalpel in the hand of Indiana Jones," she tells critics at the Television Critics Association's Winter Press Tour. Showrunner Jenna Bans points out a key difference between doctors on "Grey's" and the "Off the Map" crowd. On "Grey's," the doctors are the cream of the crop. Derek Shepherd is the best neurosurgeon, Meredith Grey graduated from Med School with shining colors. Many of the "Off the Map" doctors have taken refuge in the jungle, where resources are low and technology is primitive, for a reason. "These actors are embodying characters who really aren't at the top of their game professionally or personally," Bans says. "These are really characters who need to start over, need to really... http://blog.zap2it.com/frominsidethebox/2011/01/shonda-rimes-off-the-map-puts-the-scalpel-in-the-hand-of-indiana-jones.html
Off the Map may seem like Grey's Anatomy in the jungle, especially with executive producer Shonda Rhimes attached. But series creator Jenna Bans tells TVGuide.com that the show will set itself apart. How? Jungle medicine. Map centers on three doctors, portrayed by Caroline Dhavernas, Zach Gilford and Mamie Gummer, who venture to South America to work at a clinic with less than hospitable surroundings and a natural lack of resources. "Here, it's 1952: You don't have high-tech, you don't have big pharma, you have your brain, you have your instincts," Dr. Ben (Martin Henderson) explains to the new doctors after he punches a guy in the face to act as anesthesia in the pilot's opening moments. "From the first frame of the show you see that this is not... http://www.tvguide.com/News/Off-Map-JennaBans-1027482.aspx?rss=breakingnews
