While each of the two dates are happening, the parents and the old boyfriend/girlfriend are sitting in the same room watching the dates on a TV. This always leads to lots of arguments between the parents and the boyfriend/girlfriend. When both of the dates are finished, the girl/guy must choose who (s)he wants to keep going out with: The candidate the mom chose, the candidate the dad chose, or the old boyfriend/girlfriend whom their parents hate. A majority of the time, it is the parents trying to find their daughter a new boyfriend, but occasionally, the genders are reversed, such that the parents are trying to find a new girlfriend for their son. The show also shows parents of gay children trying to find new relationships. In one episode the teen son proposed to his girlfriend. The show however is scripted and does not deal with real situations.
