Billie Piper Regretted Playing in 'Secret Diary of a Call Girl'

British actress Billie Piper regretted signing up to star in a third series of "Secret Diary of a Call Girl" - because she had to shed her baby weight in just six weeks. The former singer - who portrays real-life escort girl Belle de Jour in the hit TV show - gave birth to son Winston in October, 2008, her first child with husband Laurence Fox. But just weeks later Piper was due back on the set of the hit show - so she was forced to give up all her favorite sweet treats in a bid to regain her pre-pregnancy figure. She says, "I was contractually obliged to do a third series and I had to get in shape quite quickly. After you have a kid... it feels like your only treat is eating. You can't go out or dance your a**e off, so you stay at home and stuff yourself with cake." Source Here

Filming for Season Three

Back at work after welcoming her baby son Winston with husband Laurence Fox in October, Billie Piper looked delighted to be reunited with her Secret Diary Of A Call Girl co-stars. She began lensing the new third series of the show on the sunny streets of Notting Hill on Wednesday. In high spirits and full of the joys of spring in a red floral headpiece the trim 26-year-old threw herself into the role of university graduate callgirl Belle, giggling with fellow actors Iddo Goldberg – who plays her character's best friend Ben – and Ashley Madekwe, who stars as Bambi, a naïve escort Belle mentors in the second series. Referencing the last series - based on a real life blog written by 'Bella de Jour' – which aired in October, the trio were seen looking at a display for The Secret Diary Of A London Call Girl in the window of a bookshop during the scene. Fans of the show will no doubt be pleased to see to see Bella has taken Ben's advice at the end of the program's second series, and written about her experiences. Season three is set to air on the Fall 2009 Schedule, and there are reports that season four is already in the works.

Preview of Secret Diary of a Call Girl Season Finale

A couple of years after cable network Showtime acquired exclusive US broadcast rights to air hit British comedy Secret Diary of a Call Girl , the series wraps up its second season tonight at 10:30pm. The show about the double life of Hannah (Billie Piper) - legal secretary by day, high-class call girl by night - premiered on the UK's ITV2 in September 2007 to huge numbers. In the same manner, Secret Diary opened in the US in June 2008 to the highest ratings Showtime had seen in nearly four years. It debuted to almost one million viewers,400,000 more than its closes rival, Dexter . The show benefited largely from the lead-in audience that tuned in for the fourth season premiere of Weeds. The second season aired on January 2009, with a third season coming up as part of the show's original acquisition deal. On the season finale, Belle receives word from her old madame for one last job, which she takes for the sheer thrill of it one last time. In the end, however, the client turns out to be someone she knows. Showtime initially thought of making an American version of Secret Diary but decided to ditch the idea and adopt the original British version as it is, says Showtime Entertainment President Robert Greenblatt. We fell in love with the original episodes, were captivated by Billie Piper's Belle... American audiences will be transfixed by the series poignant, sexy, comedy meets drama elements and the series' will fit in perfectly with our line-up of original programming. Besides, adds Greenblatt, it's very hard to find American actresses who are comfortable doing nudity. Secret Diary also stars Iddo Goldberg as Hannah's best friend and ex-boyfriend Ben, Callum Blue as Alex, the doctor whom Belle mistook for a client, Cherie Lunghi as Belle's madame Stefanie, and Ashley Madekwe as Belle's sort of protege Bambi. Billie Piper Bares It All for Secret Diary of a Call Girl

One of the more surprisingly funny panels at TCA this month was for Showtime's Secret Diary of a Call Girl . Well, anytime you get a room full of critics talking about dominatrix training and "modesty sacks," it's got to be a pretty good time. The show's star, Billie Piper, let us in on some of the upcoming stories for the show, how playing a call girl has changed perceptions of her, and whether the US or UK was more prudish about the show. Read on for highlights: * Playing Belle means men are terrified of her: "Men don't come anywhere near me anymore," Piper said. "They seem so threatened by me now. They also just stare for ages, like I'm going to do something wild and raunchy. And, you know, much to their disappointment, it never really happens." * She was never really worried that playing a prostitute would harm her image: "I really, really liked the early drafts of the script. I liked the idea," she said. "I didn't really think about it too much. I think my family and friends were quite concerned about my mental state and well-being when I was making the show, but they got over it pretty quickly." * But it sure surprised London: "People were really shocked when Billie took the role in the UK," said producer Rebecca De Souza. "Her perception at home was very much as a kind of girl-next-door darling, the nation's darling. So to take a role like this was really quite extraordinary, very, very bold." To find out what's coming up for both Hannah and Belle just read more. * Juggling Hannah and Belle will always be a problem. Having a legit identity and a call girl identity will dog Piper's character throughout the series. The main story of the second season will be "Belle falling in love and can she manage to sustain a relationship? Can she juggle Belle and Hannah? Can Hannah get what she wants? Hannah wants a relationship. Or will Belle always take her away from that?" De Souza said. In the third season, which is about to start production in the UK, Belle will write a book about her experiences. * UK audiences reacted more prudishly to the show than US viewers. "Over here, it's been nothing but a joy really," Piper said. "And people have been really open-minded - which, you know, I wasn't surprised about because when you look at the lineup on Showtime and other stations over here, TV is really advanced in terms of ideas."
