Shailene was born in Simi Valley, California and started acting at the age of five. She was raised by her mother Lori, father Loni, brother Tanner and sister Jordan. In 2004, she was nominated for a Young Artist Award (YAA) for her role in A Place Called Home as California Ford. She also starred as Felicity Merriman, in Felicity: An American Girl Adventure for which she received a Young Artists award nomination. In her most well known role, Shailene played Kaitlin Cooper in the first season of The O.C. She appeared on Crossing Jordan as a young Jordan, as well as television series such as Without a Trace, Everybody Loves Raymond, My Name is Earl, CSI: NY, and Close to Home. In 2007, Woodley appeared in the television series Cold Case as Sarah Gunden, the murder victim's younger Amish sister, who originally brought the case to the investigators' attention. As of 2008, Shailene Woodley stars in an ABC Family series known as The Secret Life of the American Teenager where she stars as Amy Juergens, who at 15 years old discovers she is pregnant after having had sex over the summer at band camp with Ricky Underwood (Daren Kagasoff). This series aired as of July 1, 2008.
