What is a Moderator?

A moderator is a valued leader of the SideReel community. Moderators help keep the site clean from spam and vandalism. Moderators also play a key role in adding new content to SideReel with new video links, updated news, and interesting tidbits about shows, movies, and people.

Do I qualify to be a Moderator?

Anyone can be a moderator! You don't have to have special skills but a keen interest in entertainment is helpful.

To become a Moderator, e-mail us at make.me.a.moderator@sidereel.com. If you enjoy creating pages, adding information to pages around the site, keeping an eye on links being added and removed from the site or your favorite shows, you're probably great Moderator material!

Moderators are special members within the SideReel community. As such, it's important that Moderators not abuse their authority and position. Moderators should never use SideReel to primarily promote their own site.

If you do have your own site, you can still be a Moderator, but Moderators are responsible for more than adding links, so if you're solely interested in adding links for your site, that's great and very appreciated, but you don't need to be a Moderator to do this.

What shouldn't I do as a Moderator?

After you've become a Moderator, if we notice you abusing the site by pushing your own links to the top, removing good links, making nefarious edits or other behavior that could be considered spamming or abusing the site, you'll receive a warning. If the behavior continues, you'll lose your Moderator status. If abuse continues, your user account and website may be blocked.

(See Link Adder Guidelines for more on what qualifies as site abuse.)

Watching and Adding to SideReel Pages

SideReel pages are entirely user editable, which means Moderators should keep track of the changes being made to the pages to make sure the changes are in the best interests of the SideReel community. This also means adding links to fansites, news, or other related websites/articles to shows, movies and people.

Watching and Adding to the SideReel Forums

If a moderator would like to moderate part or all of the forum moderators should sign up by clicking the "Notification" button on the top of the forum section to be notified when anything is posted to that board. If a message is clearly spam, delete the message. Also, seed discussions and reply to users' posts to get things moving and intrigue users to join in the forum discussion.

Moderator Status

Currently, moderators get Moderator status on SideReel (which shows up on your profile) and also Global Moderators status on the forum. When the rewards system is created, moderators will get points (or whatever system is put into place) as credit for their VERY appreciated work on the site and forum!
