"So You Think You Can Dance" Season 7's new format threw most of the fans for a loop. With the all-stars in play, there were less finalists this time around, which we're still not thrilled about, but we'll take what we can get. As the competition got underway the first few weeks, we weren't so sure about the all-star pairing since they mainly served to highlight just how untried the competitors were. Occasionally, an all-star and a contestant had decent chemistry, but it was still odd to watch a performance and still have our eyes drawn to the all-star. To Read More Click Here .
Just when we thought the most interesting thing on So You Think You Can Dance this week involves the same-sex partnerships, the unexpected happens: Alex Wong suffers an injury. And judging from what Nigel Lythgoe said last night, it could be serious: everyone fears that Alex suffered a ruptured Achilles tendon, which would force him on the sidelines for months -- and, if the MRI results suggest he can't perform next week, could spell the end of his run on the show. Not really the best ending for a contestant we've waited two seasons to perform on the SYTYCD stage, right? That makes tonight's results pretty interesting. If Alex's injury proves serious, he could be sent home tonight, and while the judges have all the say on who packs their bags at this point, it's still possible that more than one dancer goes home tonight. Of course, if the doctors say he's just fine, one of the remaining finalists will go home -- and judging from what transpired last night, a guy is still going home. So, as always, here's the result of my weekly ritual: my bottom three, as well as John's bottom three, and your bottom three as gleaned from last night's poll. Must be interesting how tonight pans out. To Read More Click Here .
One of So You Think You Can Dance's early front-runners, Alex Wong, may be out of the competition for good after sustaining a foot injury during rehearsals. Wong, 23, ruptured his Achilles tendon during rehearsals with partner Adechike Torbert on Tuesday and was unable to perform on Wednesday's episode. Per the dance competition's revised rules, Wong will automatically be put in the Bottom 3 and face a possible elimination on Thursday's episode. A source close to the show tells TVGuide.com Wong plans to see a doctor sometime before Thursday's episode, in order to determine the extent of his injury and how much time he'll need to fully recover. A Vancouver native, Wong was most recently a principal soloist with the Miami City Ballet before making into Dance's top 11. Source Here
Melinda Sullivan got the farthest than any tap dancer on "So You Think You Can Dance" before her elimination Thursday night (July 1). It's a bittersweet distinction, however, considering judges Mia Michaels and Adam Shankman told her they wished they had eliminated her the week before and kept Cristina Santana instead. Ouch. Then again, Sullivan had been in the Bottom 3 for three weeks in a row, so she's not too surprised about the results. In fact, in the interview immediately following the show, she sounds downright positive. To Read More Click Here .
"So You Think You Can Dance" has had its first sidelining injury of the season, but at least it's not a competitor. All-star Allison Holker, who's consistently wowed the audience and overshadowed her partner this season, is out for the week due to an injury. "Hey guys I have to sit this week out of #sytycd I hurt my ribs but I'm gonna rest and heal and I'll be back by next week!!" she tweets. She recently paired with Kent Boyd for a jazz routine choreographed by Mandy Moore. To Read More Click Here .
The elimination of "So You Think You Can Dance" this week is rather expected because after three weeks in a row being in the bottom three, Melinda Sullivan is the one going home. The 22-year-old from Thousand Oaks, California is the only tap dancer in this year's group. Melinda was in the bottom three along with Billy Bell and Robert Roldan. It is the first time for the former to be put in the dangerous position and is the second time for the latter. The three of them had to dance for their lives in a bid to convince the judges that they should be through to the next round. Both Billy and Robert did contemporary pieces while Melinda chose to go without music for her tap performance. The judges did not go in too much trouble announcing who went home that night with head judge Nigel Lythgoe saying the vote was unanimous. Nigel said Robert and Billy have to find a way to connect to the audience and told them that they advance to the next round. With Melinda's departure, "So You Think You Can Dance" is officially short of women. Two remain against six men. Source Here
Alex Wong, ballet dancer, brings "mad swag" and "swag for days," in the words of his proud choreographers and dance partner. After facing and conquering his biggest genre challenge -- hip-hop -- on Wednesday night's (June 30) "So You Think You Can Dance," Wong spills to Zap2it backstage, followed by his all-star partner Stephen "tWitch" Boss and choreographers Tabitha and Napoleon D'umo (aka Nappytabs). In the interview, it's clear that Wong is still on a high from the positive reception to the routine. The judges all but bowed down to him, and the former Miami City Ballet dancer can hardly believe it. "I didn't think I could do it," he says backstage. "I'm overwhelmed I got good feedback." At this point on So You Think You Can Dance, I should be saying something along the lines of "the finalists are finally hitting their stride" -- and indeed they are. Compared to previous weeks, I can remember more than one performance this week (although I probably remember some for the wrong reasons -- hello, Miss Froderman). But I've got a completely different thought: will this week be the week when tapper Melinda Sullivan finally heads home? She was saved from elimination last week after Nigel Lythgoe was overruled by his fellow judges -- but at the expense of Cristina Santana, and the fate of this season's female finalists. With only three girls left, it'd make some sense to keep all the girls for one more week and send home one of the guys. To Read More Click Here . If You Missed This Episode Watch It Here Online Now
Tonight the Top 9 of So You Think You Can Dance take the stage and we'll see if the boys keep steamrolling the girls. SYTYCDism has spoilers for the dances from the Top 9 and it looks like they took my suggestion for doing same-sex partners was strangely prescient. However, unlike my original idea, they're not doing it for everyone, which should be interesting. SPOILER WARNING: Don't read if you don't want to know who's dancing what with whom tonight. "So You Think You Can Dance" season 7 favorite Alex Wong drew Broadway/Bob Fosse and partner Lauren Gottlieb for his second week in the finals. Unfortunately, choreographer Tyce Diorio did not seem to know his Bob Fosse for their "Summertime" number. The number had a few classic "Fosse" moves, but ultimately it seemed to lack heart or pizzazz. We don't think Alex Wong will be in any danger -- he's extraordinarly talented -- but it wasn't the greatest number of the night. If you're interested in Bob Fosse's work, he choreographed "The Pajama Game," "White Christmas" and "Sweet Charity," among others.
