More Information
Something's Gotta Give is the award-winning 2003 romantic comedy by Nancy Meyers, who wrote, directed and produced the film for Warner Bros. and Columbia Pictures. She wrote the roles of Harry Sanborn and Erica Barry specifically for Jack Nicholson and Diane Keaton.
Harry Sanborn (Jack Nicholson) is a wealthy businessman and playboy and has the habit of dating women under 30. While sleeping with his latest conquest Marin, he has a heart attack. His doctor tells him not to leave the area for a week and so he stays at the beach house of Marin's mother, successful playwright Erica Barry (Diane Keaton). At first the two annoy each other, as they are widely different. Yet after a short time they fall in love with each other. But as Harry still is the old playboy, this doesn't last long and after he has the approval of his doctor Julian Mercer (Keanu Reeves), who by now has fallen in love with Erica, too, he leaves for New York, which leaves Erica with a broken heart. After a coincidental meeting of the two some time later, Harry has to discover that he still wants to be with Erica, but she rejects him, which makes Harry have a panic attack. After that, she decides to work up the whole relationship in a play. When Harry realises that, he confronts her and tries to straighten things up, but fails. Six months later, Harry travels to Paris to see Erica again and to ask her to become his wife, but he encounters her there celebrating her birthday with Julian, with whom she now has a relationship. He leaves the two after dinner at a restaurant and walks through Paris alone, until a Taxi halts near him and Erica comes out of it, telling him, she left Julian, to be with him. In the last scene, Harry, Erica, Marin, her husband and their daughter can be seen, eating together in a restaurant.
