It's odd to think that the cast of a show entering its third season has never shot more than six episodes at a time, but that's the case for TNT's Southland. The gritty police drama debuted as a midseason replacement on NBC in 2009 and earned a 13-episode renewal for Season 2. Then, NBC canceled the show before it even premiered, allowing TNT to buy and air the six episodes NBC had in the can in early 2010. So when TNT ordered a 10-episode third season, which begins Tuesday at 10/9c, the cast and crew were equally excited and cynical. "Well, the joke on set is on Episode 7 everyone's going to be walking around not knowing what they're doing," Benjamin McKenzie tells TVGuide.com with a laugh. "Needless to say the spirit is very good. Morale is very high on-set. We're having a blast knowing we will shoot 10 episodes and they will air." To Read More Click Here.

SOUTHLAND is technically returning to TNT for its third season on Tuesday, January 4, but because only thirteen episodes of the gritty and absorbing police drama have aired so far, it feels like a much newer show than that. Add in the fact that the ten episodes coming up are the first to be produced strictly for TNT and it’s almost like Southland is getting a second chance to make a great first impression. Series star Shawn Hatosy, who plays sensitive detective Sammy Bryant, is as excited as fans for the new season to begin airing. Daemon’s TV recently talked to Shawn about the upcoming season and what we can expect for Sammy and his unpredictable home life, as well as about his excellent guest stint on Dexter as the creepy serial killer Boyd Fowler. Simply put, Shawn Hatosey tells Entertainment Weekly , you must turn in for the final minute of the Southland season premiere on January 4. Why? Something will happen that forces he and partner Nate to develop a “stronger bond," Hatosey teases. "This season is going to be about how he needs someone to lean on, and he needs support." As for Michael Cudlitz's John Cooper? He'll be dealing with back pain, popping pills - and causing his those around him to be concerned. “What’s going to happen over the course of the season is that the bad days are going to start outweighing the good days, and there will be fewer good days in between,” said Michael Cudlitz (pictured). “So I think we’re all going to be left with the question of, ‘Does John have a back issue or does John have a drug issues?’” Source Here
Jenny Gago has joined the cast of TNT's Southland, TVGuide.com has learned. The 25-year film and TV vet will recur as Detective Josie Ochoa, a take-charge investigator partnered with Detective Lydia Adams (Regina King). She's been shot in the line of duty and is a tough mother of several sons. Josie's Latina culture gives her a unique perspective on cases that changes the way Lydia thinks about her work. Gago's film credits include Coach Carter, Under Fire and Nurse Betty. She is best known on the small screen for her recurring roles on Dallas, Knots Landing, as well as more recent guest appearances on The West Wing, Lost, 24, and The Closer. Shawn Hatosy is making a pit stop in Miami before returning to Southland: Sources confirm to me exclusively that Hatosy has booked a multi-episode arc on Dexter. A Showtime rep declined to divulge details on his character, but a recent Dexter casting call may offer a clue: The drama was seeking a thirtysomething actor to play the recurring role of a no-nonsense FBI agent. UPDATE: So much for my FBI theory. A source close to the show tells me that Hatosy is playing a bad guy. After completing his Dexter arc later this summer, Hatosy will head immediately into production on Southland's 10-episode third season. This marks the second major piece of casting for Dexter's upcoming fifth season. As I reported last month, Julia Stiles is also joining the cast as a mysterious young woman who forms a unique relationship with Dexter. Source Here
Yet more changes are ahead for embattled cop drama 'Southland' as TNT announces big cuts on the show. With the budget for season 3 being slashed by more than 30 percent, many cast and crew may find themselves out of a job while others will face big pay cuts. Deadline.com reports that executive producer John Wells ('ER') is among those taking a huge pay cut (rumored to be even higher than 30 percent) in order to keep the show on the air. Wells said he hoped that some axed cast members would be able to return to the show as regular or recurring characters. He said the cuts were the result of transitioning a broadcast show to the traditonally lower-budget cable. To Read More Click Here .
