Stargate Didn't Become a Great Universe Until It Was on Television

It was never in the cards that the rebooted/reinvigorated Stargate movies would keep all of the continuity from the TV shows. And thats a shame, since the TV franchise did a lot more with the premise than anyone could have expected.   Read More...

The Stargate Reboot Finds A Pair of Screenwriters

MGM and Warner Bros. Rebooting Stargate (as a Move Trilogy)

Stargate is coming back to life with some help from its original director. Roland Emmerich directed and co-wrote the original film, and is now returning to the franchise with a rebooted trilogy he’s making with Dean Devlin. The original film spawned a number of classic sci-fi TV shows including Stargate SG-1, Stargate: Universe and Stargate: Atlantis, though all are off the air now. It’s curious that the series is returning back to its film roots rather than making its way to TV, given the relative shortage of good space shows on television these days. Read More...

How to Recover from Binge-Watching Any Show: A Friendly SideReel Guide

ol li { margin-bottom: 1em: } By now we've all done it. You go in with the intention of watching one or two hours of a show and the next thing you know, the weekend is over, you're surrounded by takeout boxes, and you can't remember the last time you took a breath of fresh air. You've powered through the last 40 episodes of Breaking Bad or Mad Men and run out of show. Or maybe you've stretched the consumption of a show like Orange is the New Black out over a couple of days, but realize there are only 13 episodes in the entire series (so far). Either way, the problem is the same.  Like any addict, when the product runs out, you're going to go through withdrawal. Here are some easy steps (no, there aren't 12 of them) to ease that pain:  Take a shower. If it was a weekend marathon, there's a good chance you haven't had one in a while — and even if it was a slightly longer haul, you'll still feel better. If the show has a theme song, go ahead and sing it to yourself. If it's the Cheers theme song, sing it REALLY LOUDLY. Head over to your computer. Google "[Name of show]" and then any or all of the following terms: theories, fan fiction, wiki, supercut, mashup, tumblr. A trove of riches awaits you here. If looking at a science fiction, fantasy, or supernatural show, you don't even have to pace yourself. Note: If you're looking for any Star Trek series , go directly to Memory Alpha . Devise a drinking game around the show! No, we're not telling you to trade one vice for another — we're telling you to combine them.* It may force you to rewatch (though no, it will never be as good as the first time), or at least delve pretty deeply into plotlines, characters, and (potentially) catchphrases. This will allow you to... …bother your friends into watching this totally cool show you just discovered that they've already watched on a weekly basis and probably have no desire to talk about it anymore. IMPORTANT: Tell them you're supplying the liquor. Movie spinoffs? MOVIE SPINOFFS!** Why quit your habit? There are millions of hours of television to catch up on. Just pick a show , and check out our recommendations . *We do. **The only exception here is  Stargate , where the movie actually preceded the show and is completely different in both casting and tone. Stargate is re-opening for business (although possibly not in the way you want)

Stargate is re-opening for business (although possibly not in the way you want)" href="" class="pp_image"> I know Stargate fans are desperately waiting to hear when and if a new Stargate series might be coming around. Well, I have good news and bad news: The good news is that the newest story in the Stargate universe will begin in March! The bad news is that it's going to be as a game for mobile phones and tablets. But at least as the first trailer for the game shows, it looks pretty sweet.

Farscape and Stargate SG-1 fan favorite joins The CW's Arrow

When it comes to sci-fi alumni, Arrow is the place to be. The CW hit has added another guest star to its growing roster. What would be better than a visit from Captain Jack Harkness? How about one from Commander John Crichton?

Evil Female Alien Commanders Make for Memorable TV

Now that I'm really getting into V, I thought I'd honor the Visitors' leader, Anna (played with reptilian grace by Morena Baccarin), by putting together a list of TV's memorable alien villainesses, whose insidious forces have infiltrated, assimilated, assaulted, insulted, and generally picked on the human race. Who is your favorite alien villainess? From Caprica Six of Battlestar Galactica to the Borg Queen of Star Trek, here are some of the baddest sci-fi ladies to grace the TV screen. Full story:

The Name of the Third SG-1 Movie... The third SG-1 movie has been given a name according to GateWorld and that name is Stargate: Revolution. Gateworld reports that Amanda Tapping's Colonel Samantha Carter will reappear on SGU for or before (the episodes have not been confirmed) the Season One finale. Plot details are mum at the moment about the finale, but if Carter is in attendance then it has to be epic. Amanda Tapping Talks Season 2 of Sancutary and more...

Amanda Tapping, star and executive producer of the SCI FI Channel original series Sanctuary , told SCI FI Wire that viewers may get a glimpse into the events that helped shape her character, Dr. Helen Magnus the 158-year-old scientist who leads the effort to protect/contain creatures of all kinds when season two commences. Tapping also talked briefly about her involvement in upcoming Stargate Atlantis and Stargate SG-1 DVD movies that are in the works. SCI FI Wire spoke with Tapping, dressed head to toe in black and sporting raven hair, at SCI FI Channel's upfront presentation for advertisers and the media last night in New York. Following are edited excerpts from our exclusive interview. Some people weren't entirely convinced that Sanctuary would work as well as a weekly series as it did as an online series. How confident were you that it would work? Tapping: I was absolutely convinced, actually, when we were shooting the webisodes that it would make a great TV show. I think, in terms of the way we shot the webisodes, we shot it as if we were shooting for television anyway. So I think the transition was seamless. How pleased were you with season one of Sanctuary? Tapping: Very. I'm really proud of it. The thing with Sanctuary is that it's the little show that could. We don't have a major studio backing us. We don't have a huge support network. We sort of struggled to get our feet, and the fact that we were able to produce 13 really good episodes and have the kind of atmosphere we had with the show and the buzz that we're getting, I'm totally stoked. As you head into season two, what would you like to see for Helen and for the show in general? Tapping: For Helen, I'd love to see a bit more into her backstory, maybe go back in time a little bit with her and see what shaped her. We're definitely going to be doing more interaction between the characters. We bringing some characters forward a bit more. There's a lot of stuff happening in season two. You wear several hats on Sanctuary, most important as star and producer. How complicated is it to juggle those responsibilities while doing each one justice? Tapping: That's the one thing about last year that was the biggest learning curve for me, was how to learn when to take off what hat. As an actor I really needed to focus sometimes, but I was in the middle of conference calls or meetings and then running down to set. I found my balance toward the end. And this year I'm going to be directing as well. It's not like I need to do all these things; it's just sort of falling into place like that. A Stargate Atlantis DVD movie is in the works. Have you shot that yet? Tapping: We haven't, actually. And apparently there's an SG-1 movie as well that will be happening. Really, how much further can you spread yourself? Tapping: You know what? It's a fine line. I'm hanging by a little tiny thread, but it's all good. And the most is important thing is I'm a mom. Going back to the Stargate movies, how eager are you to play Carter again? Tapping: Oh, I love it. It's such a comfortable place to go. We say this all the time with Stargate, but it's such a family, and it's just nice when the family gets back together. It's very easy and it's fun. You fall into that same crazy vibe, and it's great. SOURCE
