Amazing Race: Unfinished Business got down, dirty and cold in Japan this week — so cold that Season 14 alums Mel and Mike White opted for medical attention during the frog-searching mud pit Detour, which ultimately booked them a trip home. "It was such a tough race. They wanted to make it tough because we had all experienced it already," Mel tells TVGuide.com. "It was too tough for me." Still, the 70-year-old writer says he and Mike — who is working on the upcoming HBO series Enlightened — have no regrets about throwing in the towel. The 18th season premiere of " The Amazing Race " did not end with an elimination for all the eleven teams were told to continue the race after reaching the pit stop. At the end of the February 20 episode, host Phil Keoghan handed out the teams some codes to solve as they arrived one by one. The Cowboys were the last. In the preview for next week's episode, it looks like Jet & Cord are in big trouble. Not only they are last in position but they "have no idea" what to do with the codes. Also, tension erupts between Ron and his daughter Christina who is "nagging" him, a reminder of how they always had the same problem back in season 12. Bad cab luck reared its ugly head again on The Amazing Race finale — this time costing Jill Haney, 27, and Thomas Wolfard, 30, a chance at the $1 million prize. After being in second place for most of the leg, the couple fell to third when they got into a cab with a driver who didn't know English — or what the Internet was. "He said he didn't know. How much worse luck can you possibly have?" Thomas tells us. "But the race kind of reflects life experiences, and sometimes you have good days and sometimes you have bad days. Sometimes you go in the wrong direction, you have communication barriers. Everything went wrong. It's kind of how it is." Though they've made their peace with their third-place finish now, the two say they're still upset they never had a chance to catch up to Nat and Kat thanks to the linear structure of the leg.
