Fox tops Thursday with 'Bones,' 'Fringe' - Featured

Jeff Probst's special and possible backdoor pilot " Live for the Moment " looked like anything but a survivor Thursday, generating the lowest numbers in the 18-49 demo of any primetime show on an unusual night in the ratings. Fox, which broadcast firstrun episodes of " Bones " and " Fringe " against what was mostly a mix of reruns and unproven shows on ABC, NBC and CBS, had its best Thursday in a season that has seen the network make significant inroads on the night. Fox's Thursday average is up 25% in 18-49 and 65% in total viewers compared with the same weeks last season. The CW 's "Vampire Diaries" (1.8 rating/5 share in 18-49, 3.8 million viewers overall) also performed well, finishing second at 8 p.m. in 18-49 and first among females 12-34 and teens. Airing at 8 p.m.," Bones " (3.6/11, 12.4 million) was the demo's winner Thursday, posting its highest ratings since 2007, while "Fringe" (3.0/8, 8.9 million) tied its best 18-49 numbers of the season. Thanks to 10 p.m. timeslot winner " The Mentalist " (2.3/6, 11.0 million), CBS finished second to Fox on the night. " CSI " (2.0/5, 9.1 million) was second at 9 p.m., but 8 p.m. entry "Moment" (1.1/3, 4.7 million), in what is normally the dominant slot of "Survivor," struggled in virtually every demo. Its best showing was a third-place finish among viewers 50 and older. ABC's " The Deep End " (1.7/5, 6.0 million) tapered further from its sluggish premiere a week ago, perhaps not helped by the fact that " Grey's Anatomy " (1.5/4, 5.3 million) and " Private Practice " (1.2/3, 4.3 million) were repeats. "Deep End" did see improvement among men. NBC broadcast all reruns in its Thursday comedy block: " Community " (1.6/5, 4.2 million), " Parks & Recreation " (1.6/4, 3.7 million), " The Office " (2.1/6, 4.6 million) and " 30 Rock " (1.7/5, 3.9 million). " The Jay Leno Show " (1.2/3, 4.3 million) had a sliver of an overall viewer advantage over " Private Practice ." The CW's " Supernatural " (1.2/3, 2.6 million) lost a chunk of its "Vampire" leadin at 9 p.m., finishing fifth in that slot. Preliminary 18-49 averages for the night: Fox 3.3/9, CBS 1.8/5, Univision 1.8/5, ABC 1.5/4, NBC 1.5/4, CW 1.5/4, In total viewers: Fox 10.6 million, CBS 8.3 million, ABC 5.2 million, Univision 4.3 million, NBC 4.1 million, CW 3.1 million. Ratings: Jersey Shore Breaks Records, Deep End Sinks

MTV execs, start pumping those fists: Jersey Shore scored record-breaking ratings in the final episode of its first (and we hope not only) season. 4.8 million viewers tuned in Thursday, a 30 percent increase over last week's previous series-high ratings. The reunion special immediately following the finale brought in an additional 4 million viewers. Shore debuted in December to 1.3 million viewers and continued to grow each week. On ABC, meanwhile, new series The Deep End brought in 7 million viewers, down 25 percent from FlashForward in the same time slot. Not all was lost for the network, though. Grey's Anatomy pulled in 12.6 million viewers, and Private Practice followed with 9.7 million viewers. Even though Bones (11.9 million) had less viewers than CSI (14.2 million), the Fox series beat out the CBS show for the first time ever in the adults 18-to-49 demographic.
