On CW's The Game (moving to BET in 2011), a spinoff of Girlfriends, Melanie Barnett (Tia Mowry) follows her boyfriend Derwin (Pooch Hall) to San Diego where he's heading to play professional football. To go along with Derwin, Melanie gave up a chance at attending Johns Hopkins University for medical school. She attends med school in San Diego instead as her boyfriend pursues his professional football dreams.
