Molly Shannon Elevates Passive Aggressive to Art on 'The Middle' (VIDEO)

'The Middle' (Wed., 8PM ET on ABC) is absolutely killing it the past couple of weeks with guest stars. Last week it was Norm MacDonald as Mike's slacker brother, and this week it was Molly Shannon as Frankie's passive aggressive sister, Janet. When the Hecks head to Frankie's family's house for Thanksgiving, Janet immediately starts to use that horrible passive aggressive technique that we all hate and all no someone who does. More often than not, it's a relative who masks it with love. So it was worth it when finally Frankie stood up to her and the two had a sincere fight, airing out the grievances that have been plaguing them most likely for years. Round it out with Marsha Mason and Jerry Van Dyke as the parents, and these are recurring characters we can truly be thankful for.

The Middle 3.09 "The Play" Recap

The cross-country team and its "no cut" policy saved Sue's middle school experience. Now that she's in high school, it's time to start trying out for activities again. Her stint as a cheerleader only lasted one game, and now she didn't make the lacrosse team. What she needs is another no-cut policy, and she thinks she has found it when Bob asks Frankie to have her kids try out for a local production of "The Wizard of Oz." They need Munchkins and they take everybody. Axl has been grounded with no video games for accepting a challenge to drive blindfolded. He will never share his accomplishments with his family again, and he proceeds to snap pennies to entertain himself. What else is there to do without video games? Brick's class is having a day where each child brings a grandparent or special friend to school for extra credit. Since his grandparents are on a cyber cruise, he asks his quirky Uncle Rusty (Norm Macdonald) to come. Patricia Heaton's Family Life Sounds a Lot Like 'The Middle' (VIDEO)

Art seems to imitate life for Patricia Heaton, who came on 'The View' (weekdays, syndicated on ABC) to talk about her show 'The Middle.' Barbara Walters pointed out that like her character Frankie, Heaton is a busy working mother: While Frankie has three kids, Heaton is a mother to four boys. Stories from Heaton's own family life often end up on the show. The 'Foreign Exchange' episode , where a student from Japan stayed with the Hecks, was based on an experience she had. "I brought our Japanese student to the set ... and he was enamored with Sue Heck, of course, but he never said a word in the ten days he stayed with us," Heaton said.
