Introduction
On The Millionaire Matchmaker the world is introduced to Patti Stanger, a third generation matchmaker who is the founder and CEO of the Millionaire's Club, an exclusive service designed to match successful men to their prospective wives. Patti is armed with not only an elite pool of millionaire clients, but also a database of women holding some of nature's most coveted characteristics: beauty, brains, and class.
Helping her millionaires find true love are Patti's office team featuring Destin, her office manager and right-hand man, Chelsea, the Vice President of Matchmaking, and Alison, Millionaires Club Rep in Sales. Every week, Chelsea and Alison bring Patti two new potential clients, and in the premiere episode, millionaires Dave and Harold are looking for love.
Not only does Patti Stanger have to deal with her wealthy clients on a regular basis, but she also has to handle her staff of personal shoppers, interior designers, date coaches and therapists. Bravo first announced the development of The Millionaire Matchmaker in April when the cable network revealed a slate of four new reality series with the hopes of continuing the 2006 success it enjoyed thanks to such reality stalwarts as Project Runway, Top Chef and The Real Housewives of Orange County.
About Patti Stanger
Patti Stanger founded Millionaire's Club in January 2000. Ms. Stanger, the club's owner, is the former Director of Marketing for Great Expectations (the largest and oldest dating service in the United States), as well as an experienced third-generation matchmaker. She also has ten years of experience in the fashion industry and has worked for such well-known companies as Union Bay Sportswear, Jou Jou Jeans, and Saks Fifth Avenue.
Ms. Stanger felt that successful men in the dating arena needed a private, exclusive club where they could come to find their beautiful and intelligent wives. Introduction services in the new millennium were, after all, no longer only for the dateless and desperate, and were becoming far more acceptable and mainstream. Patti realized that busy, upscale men simply didn't have the time to go looking for a relationship, weren't meeting the kind of women that they dreamed about, or were looking for a certain type that they couldn't find. These men needed a service where they could be introduced to exceptionally beautiful women in a relaxing, discreet and confidential manner. She also saw that, in the dating service industry, the odds of a beautiful woman joining a premier dating service on her own were very low - so she set out to recruit women from across the country and around the world through advertisements, magazine articles, dating scouts, and television appearances.
The Millionaire's Club currently has over 10,000 women available for its members to date and continues to sign up new ladies each and every day. The service is free to women only; each woman is thoroughly screened and receives a comprehensive personal evaluation before she is introduced to a male member. The Millionaire's Club is based out of Los Angeles, but caters to male and female members all around the globe.
Millionaire Club's contemporary approach sets it apart from those of traditional matchmakers. In addition to offering a complimentary membership to women, the club works closely with a leading psychologist, relationship counselor, date coach, hypnotherapist and image consultant, as well as with a variety of top-notch personal trainers, plastic surgeons, dentists and hairstylists. Ms. Stanger believes if a man wants to woo and win a Perfect 10 female, he must himself become a Perfect 10 both internally and externally in order to reach his objective.
The Millionaire's Club works with every male member on an individual basis. It coaches the particular member through each stage of the dating and mating process from the initial meeting through the marriage proposal by providing him with highly tailored feedback every step of the way. Most clubs only give their members one date per month, but the Millionaire's Club offers them as many dates as they wish, and encourages them to date a variety of women before selecting the one. Ms. Stanger personally matches every member according to his exact preferences and requirements, and follow up with each one on a regular basis. Every member also receives a special customer service number so that he can ask questions and solicit that important post-date feedback. As one member of Millionaire's Club put it, Patti knows just what men want when it comes to dating, and provides them with exactly what they're looking for.
Millionaire's Club is not a matchmaking service that provides its elite members with gold diggers. Their women seek an old-fashioned, traditional relationship where the woman has the option of staying home and raising the children while her husband pursues his career. Based on the present state of the economy, it usually takes two incomes to make ends meet. This has become the norm - a big change from the way it was in previous generations. No matter how much money a man has, however, nothing can replace chemistry. The Millionaire's Club knows that chemistry is everything, which is why catering to its members' precise standards remains its top priority.
Ms. Stanger has been in a long-term relationship for several years, and hopes to someday seal the deal by walking down the aisle with her longtime love. Time will tell if this love doctor can work her magic in her own personal life.
Episode 1
Patti arrives at Harold's sprawling mansion and gets straight to business. She quickly finds out that although Harold is in his early forties and he desires women much younger. Patti believes this is one of the main reasons he is still single and sets out to find him a match. She predicts that after working with her, Harold will begin to realize that if he listens to her and starts picking age-appropriate women, he will find true love.
Patti is also working with Sex Toy Dave. She learns that Dave has made his fortune as an entrepreneur in the adult sex toy industry. The built-in stripper pole in his living room is the first clue that Dave is a playboy at heart whose partying days may not be over. Patti tells him that he is sending the wrong signals if he really wants to settle down, but she's willing to work with him.
An open call to find the perfect match for each of her millionaires yields some unsatisfying results. Frustrated by the poor turnout, Patti demands that her staff find the 10s. At the VIP event at the Hollywood Race Track the following day, the staff has pulled together an impressive bunch and the millionaires choose their dates; Dave chooses a petite brunette with a Harvard education and Harold chooses a gorgeous model.
During a romantic dinner, Dave seems to have chemistry with his date and even a visit to his pad, stripper-pole and all, which doesn't seem to bother her. Harold and his date enjoy a sunset boat cruise, but the age gap between them takes its toll and they have a hard time connecting in conversation.
