Oprah Winfrey Lands First Interview with Discovery Hostages

Oprah Winfrey will be the first to interview the hostages held at the Discovery Channel headquarters near Washington. The 56-year-old TV host has them lined up for Thursday's show, according to her website. On Sept. 1, police say James Lee was shot by dead by officers as his three captives were trying to escape after a nearly four-hour standoff in Silver Spring, Md. The hostages included two Discovery employees and a security guard; Winfrey's website did not indicate if she was interviewing all three. Winfrey just kicked off her final season on Monday, before she launches the Oprah Winfrey Network with Discovery in 2011. Source Here

Oprah Premieres Final Season with Special Guests, Largesse for Audience

Oprah Winfrey kicked off the first show of her 25th and final season on broadcast television by dancing on stage with one of Hollywood's most famous hoofers, John Travolta, to the delight of her studio audience. The crowd of 300 select fans stood, cheering and screaming during Monday's show. Some wiped tears from their eyes. Oprah harked back to her first show in 1986, when she tried to line up Don Johnson as her first guest since he was a huge star on Miami Vice at the time. He declined, and she told the audience that she couldn't even "bribe" him with rhinestone sunglasses, adding that he never returned them. Johnson then popped up, returning the sunglasses and wisecracking: "I understand things have been going OK for you." To Read More Click Here .

Oprah Winfrey Previews Her Show's Final Season

Oprah Winfrey's last season hosting her iconic talk show might inspire a stroll down memory lane to reminisce about favorite 'The Oprah Winfrey Show' episodes of yore, but that's nothing compared to the flashback some of her staffers have been experiencing over the past few months. Winfrey told us that, for the past nine months, teams of employees have been examining more than 5,000 hours of footage the show has filmed over the past 25 years to pick out some memorable moments to return to. "They have reviewed and documented every single show, so we know what to revisit," Winfrey told us. "I plan on going back to Forsyth County [in Georgia]. That's the town where there were no black people allowed and a guy was using the N-word with me. I'm going to do a tour of the new Forsyth County with him. I'm also going to go back to Williamson, West Virginia, where the town wouldn't allow a young man who had AIDS in the grocery store. His name was Michael Sisco. He's since died." 'Oprah Winfrey Show' Fades in Ratings

For over two decades, the dominance of Oprah Winfrey's daytime talk show has just been one of the givens of life, right up there with death and taxes. But now, as the media mogul prepares to leave syndication and launch her own network (the appropriately titled OWN -- Oprah Winfrey Network) she finds herself in a new and unusual position: looking up at the competition. Yes, believe it or not, 'The Oprah Winfrey Show' is actually struggling in the ratings. According to TV By the Numbers, reruns of 'Oprah' crashed to an all-time low last week, pulling in just a 3.0 rating for the worst figures in the show's 24 year history. And before you blame the rerun factor, consider that during the same week last year the show was also in reruns but still pulled in 23% more viewers. To Read More Click Here .

Simon Cowell "Bored" with American Idol

After nine seasons on American Idol, Simon Cowell said he's leaving the Fox juggernaut because he's bored. "After a while, you start to go on automatic pilot," Cowell told Oprah Winfrey during an interview Thursday. "And there were too many times, Oprah, where I was sitting there bored, and I thought, 'The end of the day, the audience doesn't tune in to watch me being bored. They deserve more than that.' But I can't hide it when I'm bored. I just can't fake it." The 50-year-old British music executive, who said he always promised himself that he'd leave before he was forced to go, hopes his replacement won't just be a brash personality. "I think, primarily, you've got to have somebody on that panel who actually knows what they're talking about because everyone is talking about casting the nasty person or this person or get another Brit in," he said. Cowell also discussed how taxing the show and all the attention have been. "My year is like a yo-yo. I mean, I go through up and down moments ... so I'm very dark when I'm in those moments," Cowell said. "Maybe it's the draining effect when you have a lot of people who depend on you ... And you just become aware that a lot of people depend on you, rely on you, or you're not giving people the time you should be giving them. It's almost like a guilt thing. And that does drain me." Bret Michaels interview on 'Oprah': Every hospital bed has its badass bandana

'Bret, you're aliiiiiiiive!' Oprah boomed at the beginning of today's talk show. Recovering cowboy Bret Michaels appeared via satellite from Phoenix in his first television interview since his April 21 brain hemorrhage. He sounded fine, his royal blue bandana was pressed and thick-cut, and the cold sore he was rocking on the penultimate episode of The Celebrity Apprentice was nowhere in sight. There was a noticeable droop on one side of his face - a rep for Michaels confirmed to Access Hollywood today that 'this is a result of the hemorrhage and possibly exacerbated by some of the medications he is on' and is hopeful that with further rehabilitation, the droop will eventually go away. After a dramatic crossfade from Bret's CAT Scan to a photograph of his real noggin, Bret told Oprah about the 'thunderclap' effect of his sudden brain trauma. 'It sounded like a small handgun went off in the back of my head,' said Michaels. 'There was no lead-up at all. It just exploded.' To Read More Click Here .

Justin Bieber lights up 'Oprah'

I haven’t been 16 years old in a long time, so watching Justin Bieber on yesterday’s Oprah was a surreal experience for these aging eyes. Bieber grinning. Girls squealing. Oprah fawning. Sometimes you see a teenage superstar and you walk away thinking, “I can’t believe he’s only 16.” With Bieber, though, it’s more like, “He’s definitely 16. He screams 16. He’ll always be 16.” In reality, though, there’s nothing “16″ about his life. He told Oprah that he gets at least one day off each week “to be a regular kid,” but then said in the next breath that he sometimes just spends that day sleeping because he’s so exhausted. Fun.
