The Search for the Next Great American Band is the working title for a new reality television talent contest. The show will air on Fox starting in the fall of 2007 at 8 p.m. Eastern and Pacific times Friday nights, beginning with a premiere episode on October 19, 2007. The program was created by 19 Entertainment, which is one of the companies behind American Idol, and the show shares the same basic concept as Idol. This time, however, the winner will not be a solo artist but instead a musical band. The contest is open to performers of all genres of music, and there are no age limits for the performers. In an interview with the Australian newspaper The Daily Telegraph, Australian Idol judge Ian "Dicko" Dickson revealed that he has signed on as one of the judges. The other two judges are Sheila E. and John Rzeznik of The Goo Goo Dolls. Dickson will serve as a judge on Australian Idol concurrently. The host of the show will be New Zealand Idol host Dominic Bowden.
