In Ireland, in 1920, workers from all over Ireland unite and form volunteer guerrilla armies to face the ruthless "Black and Tan" squads that are being shipped from Britain to block Ireland's bid for independence. Driven by a deep sense of duty, a love for his country and the pressure put upon him by his friends and family, Damien abandons his burgeoning career as a doctor to join his brother, Teddy, in a dangerous and violent fight for freedom. The two brothers fight side-by-side, united in their purpose and ideals. As the freedom fighters’ bold tactics bring the British to breaking point, both parties agree to a treaty to end the bloodshed. But, the treaty divides the Irish between those who believe they must work within the new and flawed system to make a difference and those who believe they have to continue to fight until they are truly free. Damien and his brother Teddy find themselves in opposing camps and have to decide if their ideals are more important than their own flesh and blood.
