In Mexico a Russian gang of sex traffickers kidnaps the 13-year-old Mexican girl Adriana (Paulina Gaitan), the young Polish woman Veronica (Alicja Bachleda) who travels from Poland to the US through Mexico, and a little Mexican boy, to be sold as sex slaves. They are smuggled into the US, but the group is caught by the US border police. The gang members keep the kidnapped people from telling the police that they were kidnapped by threatening to harm their families. The kidnappers and victims are sent back to Mexico, after which they sneak into the US again.

Jorge (Cesar Ramos), the 17-year-old brother of Adriana, and two friends, rob a tourist by threatening him with guns. After the tourist complies, the three carry out a mock execution, revealing that the guns are only water guns. When Jorge hears about his sister's kidnapping he asks his friends to help him find her, but they refuse. He finds the kidnappers on their way the second time to the US. He robs his friends from their car and uses it to follow the kidnappers. He sees that a Mexican policeman meets the gang to have sex with one of the victims. He crosses the border illegally, hidden in the trunk of the car of federal insurance fraud investigator Ray (Kevin Kline), without Ray knowing this. Ray has been in Mexico to search for his daughter from extramarital sex. Jorge reveals himself and tells about the kidnapping, and Ray brings Jorge to a police station to report the kidnapping. However, Jorge, who reluctantly came along, flees, suspicious about police. Ray finds Jorge and decides to help him to rescue his sister. They travel together to New Jersey, where the victims are taken to and from where an internet auction will be held to sell them to the highest bidder. On the way Jorge recognizes the little boy, who has been sold to an elderly man. Ray frees the boy and forces the man to tell the password of the internet site of the auction.

Adriana is forced to have sex with a customer in a field; the gang members tell the customer that he cannot have intercourse with her, because at the auction she has to be sold as a virgin. Later Adriana and Veronica manage to escape: Veronica sees a policeman and tells Adriana to warn him, while Veronica herself phones her parents to warn them for the internationally operating Russian criminal organisation. However, Adriana fails to warn the policeman, and during the phone call Adriana and Veronica are recaptured by the kidnappers. Veronica commits suicide by jumping from a cliff. The kidnapper arrives with Adriana at a house where his female boss keeps more victims. She scolds him for "losing" Veronica.

Ray and Jorge ask the New Jersey police to free Adriana, but they refuse, it does not fit in their strategy against a larger criminal organisation the gang is part of. Ray, assisted by Jorge, participates in the auction and "buys" the girl, to free her. Ray visits the house where she is kept, bringing the money. However, he has to prove that he is not a cop by having sex with her in a room in the house. He does not do that, of course, but the kidnapper who took them to the place is willing to report to his female boss that they indeed have had sex. When they leave Jorge arrives and attacks the man, and the police arrives to arrest the two kidnappers and free several children they find in the house. Also the money Ray paid is returned to him. He gives it to Jorge, and recommmends that he stays out of trouble back in Mexico. Jorge puts the money secretly back into Ray's car when they say goodbye. Jorge and Adriana are flown to Mexico. There Jorge kills a man (a pimp or customer) in the prostitution area. The film ends with showing the man's little child, who just lost his father.
