The Most Important Shows on TV: Week of August 18, 2014

Which TV series will your friends (and the entire internet) be talking about this week? Stay informed—or at least be able to fake it—with SideReel's weekly guide to The Most Important Shows on TV.   America's Next Top Model (Season Premiere) Monday at 9pm on The CW Why: Because it's been almost a year since the last cycle of everyone's not-so-secret guilty pleasure aired, and we miss that bizarre alternate dimension where phrases like "smize" and booty-tooch" require no extra explanation. Prepare to talk about: How almost no one has launched a successful modeling career from this s**tshow of a program (but you love it anyway); how a boy will HAVE to win this year to keep it looking "legit"; and how it's just not the same without Mister and Miss Jay.   Doctor Who (Season Premiere) Saturday at 8pm on BBC America Why: Nerds rule the world! This show has been a hit for well, 50 years, but it's really only entered the American consciousness in the last eight—mostly because of nerds on the internet (we love you, nerds on the internet!). Also, there's a new star (Peter Capaldi), and he's basically awesome. Prepare to talk about: How great Peter Capaldi is as the Doctor and how you don't even MISS Matt Smith for real, you don't even care how many enemies that makes you; also, how Clara is just the worst.   True Blood (Series Finale) Sunday at 9pm on HBO Why: Um, it's the series finale of the show that defined camp for a generation! No more vampire Eric! No more naked Sookie! No more beyond-cray TV! Prepare to talk about: Vampire Eric's body; how you're actually kind of relieved it's finally over; did we mention Vampire Eric's body?       Leah E. Friedman  is the editor of SideReel.com. 'True Blood': Is Bill Going to Die?

I was so set on Bill and Sookie ending up together, I didn't really consider the possibility that Bill might not want to survive Hep V. As I've previously stated before , Sookie infecting Bill was the perfect way to bring them together. And they totally did get back together! Sookie felt guilty about infecting Bill, and with death looming around the corner, her opinion of Bill and their rocky relationship softened. But now that Sookie is trying to cure him, he is seemingly shirking from the possibility of living. What's up with that?   Read More... http://www.buddytv.com/articles/true-blood/true-blood-is-bill-going-to-di-54322.aspx

Jim Parrack on His True Blood Return, Hoyts Dream Girl, and Drinking Blood IRL

Warning: This interview contains minor spoilers for Almost Home, the latest episode of True Blood .   Earlier this season, when Jason Stackhouse called up his old friend Hoyt Fortenberry to let him know his mother died ,you just knew wed soon be seeing Hoyt back in Bon Temps, not only to bury his mother and take care of her possessions, but also, quite possibly, to bump into his ex Jessica. Hoyt and Jessica had too much history from their meet-cute at Merlottes all the way up through to her glamouring him so that hed forget her for them not to interact onscreen again. But to save her and Jason both in one fell swoop? Thats a final-season True Blood reunion done right. Jim Parrack, who plays Hoyt, called up Vulture while en route to the airport for his first vacation in my adult life to chat about drinking blood, bursting vampires, and Hoyts hero complex.   Read More... http://www.vulture.com/2014/08/jim-parrack-true-blood-hoyt-fortenberry-chat.html
