When singer Robert Goulet comes into the hospital with an ear infection Berg convinces him to sing at Ashley's New Year's Eve party. So he can attend the party, Berg switches shifts with another doctor, unaware that Ashley has a crush on him. Naturally, Ashley thinks Berg did this dilberately. Irene is Pete's date for the party and she surprises everyone by acting normal for once, causing Pete to see her in a new light. Johnny tries to get out of the romantic evening Sharon has planned for them so he can meet Robert Goulet.
