We Haven't Seen The Last Of Zack Addy
Q: Explain to me why Bones made Eric Millegan a killer at the end of last season.
A: For those of you who don't watch the entertaining Fox comedy-drama, Millegan's character, Zack Addy, was a murderous associate of the serial killer Gormogon.
We're going into our fourth season and you want an audience to know that you're not 'in a box,' that anything can happen, producer Hart Hanson told TV Guide. Even though we're half a comedy, you don't want an audience settling in and getting blase.
But you haven't seen the last of Zack. He won't be in every episode, but Zack has certain talents we can use in a 'Hannibal Lecter' kind of way, Hanson said. We can go visit him and he can look at stuff.

Although I understand and respect the above stated reasons for this horrible end to the third season I DO NOT believe that Zack was a disposable character. The squint squad and booth are a family! The group dynamics just won't ever be the same without Zach there. Who will be the lovable, logical brain fighting for position as king of the lab? Zacharoni can't be replaced. I have totally loved Bones from season one, but 'Pain in the Heart' was a total party foul. You will be missed Zach.
p.s. if booth and bones don't hook up eventually that will almost be worse than making Zach a psycho killer.
I have to agree with the person above. Booth and Bones really need to hook up, and not just some little kiss thing like before, they should really just start going out. I mean Booth was so jealous when Bones was going out with that other agent and the thing between them has been dragging on for 3 seasons. And making Zach a killer, really not expecting that. I loved Zach he was like the lovable little kid in there family. He has to still be in the show you can not get rid of him.
I agree, and would love to see booth and bones start dating, but I think there's a reason why they don't. If they 'Hooked up' then the show would be over, not actually but the way they interact would change. In almost all other shows (take Grey's anatomy for example) the obvious couple gets together but it never seems to work out. Logically, everybody thinks it should and if it were real, it probably would. So if they don't start going out soon they probably will by the end... You know, so everyone can live happily ever after.
i completely get why they did this. the whole 'box' thing makes sense. thats why they added cam, too, to show that the group is subject to change. i think its kind of lame to have him help from jail, but im torn because i still want to see cute little zack addy. it makes you wonder who will take his place. clark, maybe?
I was very disappointed about the directors making Zack out to be one of the bad guys. I certainly hope they're going to redeem themselves in the new season. And I definately hope that Zack comes back full-time. Forget this on-call basis.
On a side note, I don't agree with Booth and Bones hooking up. Part of the show's attraction is the tension between the two. If they get together, then it just becomes another night time soap opera like Remington Steele ended up being. The whole knowing that they care for each other, but not wanting to ruin their friendship is what makes the chemistry more intense.
I thought it was brilliant, disappointing in a way, but brilliant. I love the show. I believe also, as it has been stated Zack was a great part of the show but something had to change the dynamics. Zack is not a disposable character that is why you will defiantly see more of him. Also for those of you, who did not catch it, but because Zack gave Gormogon up, he was not sent to prison; he was however placed in a psychiatric facility, because of that Zack will be more accessible to help out and to his friends. Just keep watching you may be surprised.
Oh and about the whole Bones and Booth hookup. Don't rush anything, and if the creators are smart they won't rush it. I know it has been a whole three season and nothing. But that is one of the best parts of the show. I think that Bones and Booth are so great for each other, and the chemistry between them can just kill you sometimes. But it is fun to watch and wonder will they or won't they. Just don't rush it. Personally I would guess they will grow closer and closer throughout season 4 but don't expect anything until the season finale or even by next season. I advise be patient, it is a virtue and it will be great when it is paid off.
I should have joined the conversation earlier .... but now looking forward (and not, unless they fix this) to the next season I have to say: For the previously most intelligent show on TV, they REALLY blew it. Zack just did not do it. His character is incapable of the actions ascribed to him. Even disregarding the mutual love and admiration between he and Bones, He would NEVER disappoint his huge Mid-Western family! It's patently ridiculous. If there is any logic OR intuitive knowledge available to the writers, they must write around it now: they made a mistake, and either Zack was drugged, or someone threatened those he loved, or he took the blame because he was afraid it was Hodgins. Something! It seemed clear for quite a while that if it HAD to be a current cast member then Sweets was the only possibility. As opposed to Zack, one can look back and find EVIDENCE for Sweets. Was Zack really sacrificed because he was just too 'different'? He was a solidly good human, who may have tried to see the 'logic' to the motivations of Gormogon; even Bones could have dispassionately discussed the anthropological argument for cannibalism, but he himself could not be guilty any more than Bones herself. Please.
If there was a personal reason for Millegan to leave, better to have Gormogon kill him than make him act wildly out of character. He may have been a misfit prior to working with this team, but had found unconditional acceptance, was contributing positively to Humanity, and was capable of self-sacrifice. As clearly seen in saving Hodgins from the explosion.
The only possibility now is to kill him off and discover he lied to protect another. Otherwise the best and smartest show EVER (by me) on network television is as good as dead.
PS Hannibal Lecter was insane. Zack Addy is smart. As Bones might say: The fear and persecution of the highly intelligent is a sign of a society in danger of becoming fascist.
Although many people have already said this, I feel like I have to add my thoughts (no matter how similar they may be).
When I first watched the final episode of the third season, I thought at the time that making Zack Gormogon's apprentice was a brilliant twist that no one saw coming. However, when I look back on it and think about it as a whole, I believe it was a big mistake on the writers part.
Zack, who audiences everywhere have learned to love and trust would never do something as horrific as working with a serial killer. It just doesn't fit Zack's character, the sweet and innocent man who worships Dr. Brennan and loves his work. I can understand how the writers and producers of the show would want to "shake things up" so to speak, so that we, as viewers, don't get too comfortable in thinking that nothing will ever happen on the show. Maybe this is a good tactic, but frankly I think it just made fans angry to loose such a loved character (although we'll still be seeing Zack, it will never be the same).
I am not mad that they made Zack a killer, I just think it was a mistake. However, I definitely plan to keep watching this amazing show.
B/B forever!

I think they should find that Zack has a tumor that affects his ability to reason between what is right and wrong. It's a big emotional roller coaster ride for the whole team, but they rally for him whilst he goes for surgery that he miraculously survives but his personality is affected. He is still brilliant, but unpredictable. One minute emotionally devoid, next moment a cassanova, another moment a grouchy s.o.b. or eccentric in your face asshole...
You want change and unpredictability....
