The top ten characters of 2008 would have to be;
Sheldon- The Big bang Theory; Funniest part of that show
Barney- How I Met Your Mother; another supporting character that steals the show
Desmond-Lost; Finally started to give people some pretty big answers
Ari Gold-Entourage; one of the best tv characters ever
Hank Moody-Californication; Ducovney is just perfect in that role
Olive Snook-Pushing Daisies; an odd thing for me to say, but just addorable
Walter Bishop-Fringe; Very interesting, and I have a feeling the best is still yet to come
Dr. Kelso-Scrubs; Wish he was my Grandpa
Stewie-Family Guy; another one of the best tv characters ever
Jake-Two and a half men; continues to keep that show fresh
Agree with Sheldon and Desmond!
Could do without Megan (I like Privileged, but she's no Top 10) and don't think Jason Stackhouse is there yet either...unless it's best shirtless characters, in which case Stackhouse ftw ;-).
Barney is the best thing on the list! i love him and love the show. he is the best part of it!
Also think desmond should be on the list, he's my fave on lost.
I agree Desmond should be on the list no doubt about it. Jeff on Chuck he my be annoying but, that dude is FUNNY! I laugh every time I like him better then Barney, who in right is the best part of that show. I used to be a fan but it's becoming stereotypical formula sitcom. Hank Moody should also be on this list his best character since early X-Files. And well Walter reminds me of that cool crazy professor that you take acid with. And frankly I refuse to watch Gossip Girl, and really want to start a boycott on crappy TV shows that don't deserve to be on the air and give the ones that should a chance. I'm still mad about losing my Pie Hole.
I completely agree with you DosSin, I would like to join your boycott of crappy tv, they keep the terrible shows like Gossip Girl and cancel an unique show like Daisies, there is no justice. In addition to my list, I would add Daniel Faraday from lost as a really good New Character and Llyod on Entourage had gotten a much bigger role lately.
Alyson Lee Hannigan only because I'm a loyal fan of hers. But yes neil patrick harris is hilarious.

I say Chuck Bass. He is funny, mean, and cute; what's not to love.
I think gossip girl as a whole is pretty terrible tv as a whole - but Ed and Leighton are outstanding. Their acting really shines. He's an interesting character, he's got a great plotline, and the actor is really talented. So I definately agree with him being on the list.
Couldn't comment on some of the others as I don't watch the show. But I do think Dean/Sam from Supernatural are going to be characters to watch.

Dexter -Dexter- Stellar performance from Michael C. Hall
T-Bag(Theodore Bagwell) -Prison Break- I just cant say why but he got under my skin!!
Walter Bishop -Fringe- Never knows whats next ....not even him!!
Gaius Baltar -BSG- One of the best caracters on TV
Tom Jane -The Mentalist- Keeps impressing me every episode
Cameron Phillips/River Tam -Terminator SCC/Firefly- Pretty similar roles but i cant get enouph of her ...IMO she is the best female caracter on TV... I see Bright things in Summer Glau Future
William Adama -BSG- he inspires me when i look at BSG

GREGORY HOUSE -House- THE ABSOLUTE BEST CARACTER ON TV!!!
