PTC Responds to GG Ads
As soon as The CW released these new ads (one of which is displayed here), which were quite clearly baiting the PTC (and others), it was only a matter of time before the response.
And now we have it!
Says the PTC:
"I think it reeks of desperation, if they have to position themselves as so edgy and so controversial that they've been called out by us."
Responds The CW:
"Just like with any ads that we do, we looked for well-written quotes from third-party outlets that support our new unconventional campaign, one that we believe speaks directly to Gossip Girl's sophisticated, media-savvy young adult fans. There were several quotes that we considered, but the four that were chosen really capture what the show is about in a tongue-in-cheek way."
It's like Blair and Serena feuding all over again...

i kind of have to admit that there a certain truht to the desperate note. while somethign like thsi wouldnt be considered egdy at all in other countries, aprticularily europe, given the conservativness of america these ads reak a certain desperation, but primarily sicne this is a chanel whose attentions are directed moreso towards the teenage audiences
p.s. the pic of serena, that one's just trashy
i have to say that my parents don't approve of me watching gg mainly because of their ads
sorry to say i still watch the show i fast forward through the trashy parts which there arent many
These ads are pretty clearly trying to show the "racey" gossipy stuff going on in the show, but I think there's plenty of the consequences of these actions shown that this show isn't some goody-two-shoes hour-long ad for being smart and safe in high school, but it does show the (very exaggerated) realities of high school life including making big mistakes, having big break ups and friend fights... all pretty simple and with plenty of regrets, consequences, and lessons when you take a look at the whole picture. I suppose these parents aren't actually watching the show... that might help perhaps...
these ads are PURE GENIUS
I'm sick of the Parent's council whining and these ads just taking what they said...maybe the PC should be careful with what they say because ANYTHING can be used against you...
I LOVE LOVE LOVE these new ads...they hilarious and smart
Can't wait for the return of GG on september 1st!
what i dont get is why it's so normal for them to have sex at 16 and 17, given that they are juniors in HS. people mad eit soudn like soem sort of a 'virgin mary'-esque miracle that blair was a virgin in her JUNIOR year of hs, it's pretty pathetic if that's the extent of the life expectancy of a chastity belt on that show lol...
omg!! the ads are just to get people intrested in watching the show... but the actual show is for teenagers... sick of parent worrying over nothing
omg get over it!!!! its just tv its not going to influence ppl that much!!!! people shud stop taking things so seriously!!!! its only a show! i love gossip girl and its hardly trashy but these adds will get more people intrested.
