******Episode Spoilers********
A mom and her son drive back home to pick up a forgotten hockey stick. The kid is upset about being super lame at the icy sport. He's comforted by his mother's observation that at least 3 other kids suck worse than him (solid parenting). When they pull up to their garage, they see that daddykins has decided to off himself via the stinkiest way possible: vehicular carbon monoxide poisoning. A little dramatic considering he has a medicine cabinet full of pain meds at his disposal, no? And, even more puzzling, why would he snatch five shirts off their hangers before carbon monoxidizing (totally not a word) himself? ...continue reading

I suppose the shirts were wedged by the door to stop the CO from escaping outside.. or else he just had trouble deciding what he'd like to be caught dead wearing.. Just a thought:P
Someone else pointed out the stuffing-shirts-under-door thing, so I'm sure that was it. He did seem to select them carefully, though. Maybe it was mostly stuffing, but partly "what he'd like to be caught dead wearing"? Nicely put, btw. ;)
Actually, we see the shirts blocking the bottom of the garage door when the mom raises the door. So that's definitely it - same colors of the shirts he picked, anyway. Maybe they were his oldest and/or rattiest> Or not?
The whole shirts thing was clearly just a traditional red-herring for "House" (the show) like there are throughout each episode. We're meant to think that he's leaving his family, not killing himself, thus taking shirts to pack. But then he's using them for air-proofing. Either way works, but towels would have been a more obvious beginning. morpheusathame is right about them being visible when the garage door is opened.
"he blows into his air tube"
No, he blew into his IV, which would have definitely been bad for the same reason you see the doctor or nurse remove air from a vaccine syringe before using it, as the air bubble would have gone right into his vein.
he tried to off himself with inhalation when he had a full cabinet of pain meds? ok, even if one attempts to assume that he was trying to make it look like and accident to spare his family, the aforementioned "air-tight" shirts are a dead give away to suicide. this guys just stupid.
have to say though, as far as house go's this was a fantastic episode, the major/minor story arch's even covered everyone but chase. well done. gotta say all the twists were a little cliché, but hey, still the intricate weaving of the metaphors and story lines was top class.
just noticed the bad pun earlier, sorry
