Oddly Amusing

In all honesty I find myself at quite the impasse with the show, there's no doubt that it's very well made and there is something about it that is remarkably reminiscent of Six Feet Under [but I suppose them both having the same creator and writer would have a great deal to do with that fact].

the interesting thing, however, is that I don't really know what to make of the story, there is this serious undertone to it all, when dealing with murder and racism that's decidedly inescapable, but despite it all there's a comedic flair to it that i found extremely... refreshing, really. regardless of the fact that there was murder and the episode ends with Sookie probably getting her neck broken, given how hard she was kicked in the jaw and the way her head snapped back [queue the prerequisite eew when the blood came spewing out of her mouth] there's still something about the show that keeps you laughing... or at least me.

maybe it's that awful gap in her teeth that's oddly refreshing in a normal girl sort-of way, maybe it's the southern accent that makes anyone who doesn't have one rudely cackle a bit in a totally unjustified way, or maybe it's the grandma that is somehow endearing in how she asks if Bill was there during the civil war. I don't know how the show manages it, or if it's unintentional and i made a total mockery of the series by spending the entire hour laughing, but it's new, original and worth at least a shot, that much in undeniable.

p.s. am I the only one who doesn't see much chemistry between Sookie and Bill?

p.p.s. also, does anyone else find an odd amusement in the fact that an Australian, her brother, is putting on a southern accent?
