Cate Blanchett Confirmed as Maid Marion in 'Robin Hood'

Amidst speculations of Cate Blanchett replacing Sienna Miller as Maid Marion in "Robin Hood", a new report broke out that the award-winning actress has been set to take on the part. Variety has reported that the Brad Pitt's co-star in "The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button" will star alongside Russell Crowe, who will portray the titular character.

Imagine Entertainment's Brian Grazer, who will serve as the film's producer, commented that Blanchett was "a strong match for Crowe". He also added that putting her and Crowe together will make one enjoyable film. "They are both highly accomplished dramatic actors who are taken seriously playing rich characters in period pieces, but each has the ability to show you fun," so he claimed.

The rumor of Cate Blanchett taking over Sienna Miller's character sparked soon after the younger actress was reported to be leaving the project, allegedly due to the producers' fear that she may make lead star Russell Crowe looks "old and fat". The speculation grew even more when Mark Strong, who is attached to play Sir Guy of Gisbourne, said at the 29th London Film Critics' Circle Awards, "I think Cate Blanchett is set to take the Maid Marian part."

"Robin Hood" is the working title given for the Ridley Scott-directed adventure film which was once named "Nottingham". It will begin production in early April. The story will follow Robin of Loxley. Abandoned as a child, he finds community with the common people of Nottingham. Robin's abandonment and trust issues hamper his ability to fall in love. He meets his match in Marian, a strong, independent woman.
